Learn About The Types Of Fishing Reels
Monday, August 31, 2009
The first kind of reel that I want to talk about is the spin casting reel, which is a great reel for beginner fishermen to learn on. Spin casting reels are the cheapest of all the types of fishing reels in most cases, and they are especially great for the kids.
Although spin casting reels often run into a lot of problems, like line tangling, and breaking easy, an expensive one will last you a long time and you should be able to catch a lot of fish on it. The main purpose of spin casting reels is to hold light fishing line, making them great for the beginner learning how to fish.
Spinning reels, in my opinion are the most widely used type of saltwater fishing reel. They are open faced reels, easy to learn how to use, and the variety of them is outstanding. The fishing line is guided onto and off the reel by the means of a bail. There are many types of spinning reels that can be used for big fish or small fish.
Some spinning reels might be designed to hold 5 pound test to 10 pound test, while others might be designed to hold a lot more. Almost all types of spinning reels have a drag system, some are better than others and you will get what you pay for in almost every case.
Bait casting reels are for the more experienced fisherman, since they are more difficult to learn how to fish on. They sit on the fishing rod, and the fishing line comes off a spool that revolves. Once you learn how to fish with a bait casting reel they are great as you have more control when you are casting.
Bait casting reels also work great with heavy fishing line, making them a favorite for deep sea fishing for big game saltwater fish. The only bad thing about them is if you do not know how to use them you will tangle the line a lot, and they are more costly then other types of fishing reels.
When it comes to fly fishing reels, you need to know that they are only for retrieving and holding fishing line, they have nothing to do with casting. You just pull the fishing line off of the reel and then you are casting with the fishing rod using the weight of the fly and the line.
The cost of fly fishing rods can range from a couple of dollars to over a thousand. When saltwater fishing you will need to be careful on what type of fly fishing reel you use. If you are going after big saltwater game fish you will need a reel that can hold a lot of heavy line, and one that also has a great drag system.

Do You Have A Need For GPS?
When it comes to GPS technology and devices, you have to list Garmin at the top. Their name is the most recognizable and their devices are all top notch. Unfortunately, it is difficult to ever find them on sale as this company is trying to protect its name from ever being considered a discount brand.
GPS devices have increased in popularity as more and more people think of new uses for them. It seems they are still a bit on the expensive side but those people who do use them don't seem to mind. The newer units have a directional system that has a voice telling you where to go. This is very nice for use in a car because you can just listen for the voice directions and not have to take your eyes off the road to look at the map.
Anyone wanting to buy a new or used GPS unit can get them online at many different websites. You can also buy them new at any electronics store but the best deals will be found online. Unfortunately, those deals may not be too great as it is hard to find anyone selling them for a meaningful discount. Since GPS units are still rather new to consumers, the manufacturers dont feel they need to offer discounts to get sales.
The newest GPS devices have all sorts of extra features that make them more advanced than the older models. You will want to make sure you have a good idea of what type of unit you want ahead of time so that you dont end up paying for something more expensive that you will never use. The difference in price between the lower end models and the higher end ones can be many hundreds of dollars for something that most people will only use every once in a while.

The Edge Boating Lessons Give
Sunday, August 30, 2009
The lakes and the beaches present some dangers that people tend to overlook. Sometimes, dismissing these dangers is one of the main reasons why accidents happen in the water. if you are thinking of getting a jet ski, it is quite essential that you learn the jet ski basics from an expert before you buy one and set out on your own.
While jet ski lessons provide the basic knowledge on how to man a jet ski, taking boating lessons seems to be a better option. Boating lessons may differ greatly with the essentials of jet ski, but there are certain advantages that boat lessons provide that jet ski lessons don't. Once study reveals that people who have underwent boating lessons have better survival chances compared to those who have no basic boating knowledge at all.
Aside from the better survival rate, one should put into consideration the frequency of accidents jet skis are involved in. Allover the world, the jet ski is the second leading type of water vehicle that has been part of mishaps in the water. If you still think that boating lessons re not worth it, better think again.
Jet skis are highly maneuverable. One slight movement of the handlebar and the jet ski would respond right away. For novices, this details is mostly overlooked. Such fact of overlooking has led to a number of accidents and injuries.
Boating lessons, on other hand, provide people with more than the basic watercraft essentials. These lessons also equip people with the proper safety procedures and how to react to situations to prevent accidents from happening. Should an accident do happen, boating lessons also throw in some important guidelines to survive in the water. Those are some of the things jet ski lessons do not offer out much.
If you decide to take some boating lessons and safety procedures, then good for you. There are quite a number of people who have overlooked such matters and have suffered the grave consequences. As always, it is better you go out to the sea fully equipped with the skills and knowledge needed if accidents do strike.

The Fishing Piers Of Fort Desoto
One option of fishing that can be done at the park is by boat, seeing that there are plenty of boat ramps in the park. You can fish the mangroves, under bridges or right off of Eggmont Key, all known to be exceptional for saltwater fishing.
If you do not have a boat there are several other options you can take to catch some fish at the park. For instance there are two fishing piers that are there, and they are open all day and all night. The names of the piers are the Gulf Fishing Pier and the Bay pier.
The Gulf Pier is my favorite pier to fish during the day, and I think a lot of people can agree with me because it is always packed with fishermen from the start to the end of the pier. If you are there during the day you will be able to purchase live bait and fishing tackle from the bait and tackle shop that is there.
When you first walk onto the Gulf Fishing Pier there is a sign showing you all of the commonly caught saltwater fish you can catch off of the pier. Some of these will include mackeral, small sharks, rays, grouper, pinfish, sheepshead, bonnetheads, and of course snapper fish.
The Bay pier can also be a great spot for fishing, although the end of it is primarily used for tour boats and fairy boats going to and from Eggmont Key. This pier is not as large as the Gulf Pier but you can pretty much catch the same types of fish that you could catch over at the Gulf Pier.
For night time fishing I recommend fishing at the Bay Pier. For one it is not as windy, and you do not need as heavy fishing tackle as it has docks that are close to the water. During the day they have a tackle shop also where you can purchase bait and stuff.
The fishing piers are located at the southern most part of the island, and they are open to fishermen 365 days a year, all day and all night. At night they are well illuminated which helps you cast and make rigs, and also will attract schools of fish to the bright spots in the water.

Sitka - 10 Reasons it's Alaska's Premier Fishing and Tourist Destination
Saturday, August 29, 2009
Lowest Rod Hours Per Fish - One excellent reason that Sitka is considered to be Alaska's premier fishing and tourist destination is because it offers the lower rod hours per fish in the entire state of Alaska. This means if you really want to have a great time actually catching fish, then this is definitely the place that you want to visit.
Interesting History - The Sitka area has an interesting history. At one point in time it was the Russian Capital, back when Russia owned Alaska. This makes it an interesting point for tourists to visit. Many historical sites are in the area to visit, and when you are not fishing you'll have a great time exploring them.
Mild Tides and Currents - The tides and currents make it the best fishing spot in Alaska. Since the currents are so mild, you can get bottom fish no matter what time of day it happens to be. In many other Alaska fishing spots, you can only fish during slack tide parts of the day
Halibut and Salmon - If you enjoy fishing for both halibut and salmon, than Sitka is the place to be. You can fish for both of these fish all in the very same day. This doesn't happen in most other fishing areas around the state, so it's definitely one of the reasons to choose Sitka if you enjoy fishing for these kinds of fish.
Bright Salmon - Most of the other fishing areas in Alaska will provide you with salmon, but they are usually dark because they are going to be spawning. However, in Sitka you'll find that the salmon you catch are actually ocean bright. They feed here, and you'll get beautiful salmon in this area.
Currents Push in Bait Fish - Because of the currents and the location of Sitka, you'll find that bait fish are pushed right into the area. Due to all the bait fish, bigger fish come in to the area and eat the bait fish. This makes it a prime spot to fish for larger fish.
Other Great Wildlife - Not only can you have some fun fishing in Sitka, but there is quite a bit of other great wildlife for you to see and enjoy as well. Some of the unique wildlife you'll get to see include albatross, seals, sea otters, humpback whales, porpoises, puffins, and eagles.
Not Too Crowded - You'll find that the Sitka sport fishery is not that old. For this reason, there is not a huge crowd there. Since it is not too crowded, everyone can enjoy getting plenty of fish, and you'll enjoy your fishing experience
Great Fishing in Storms and Nice Days - Whether the weather is beautiful or it's a stormy day, you can still enjoy great fishing in Sitka. If it is storming, the inside waters are still calm enough for fishing. Then on days that are nice, you can enjoy fishing on the outside waters too.
Excellent King Salmon Fishing All Summer - Another reasons that Sitka is a premier fishing spot as well as a great tourist destination is that it offers excellent king salmon fishing all summer long. They come to the outer coast to feed, which means that they are available more often for those fishing in the area. At other places people often fish, there is only a certain period of time for catching these fish because their only around for spawning.

Fly Fishing Tackle For The Beginner
You will need a good collection of flies in your fly fishing tackle box. The fly is usually and artificial bait used to trick the fish into biting the hook. Different fish will prefer different bait, some will float on the water while other types of flies might be meant to sink below the water.
Next important thing is the type of fishing line you will be using. In fly fishing the weight of the line is very important, as it is used to cast the fly out, unlike regular saltwater and freshwater fishing with conventional rods. You will have to make sure that the line will fit the reel and work with it properly.
Part of your fly fishing gear includes what you will be wearing while fishing. You'll need to have a good pair of waders so you can keep dry while going after your fish. Pick a pair of waders that will meet your fishing situation. Chest high waders are usually a good choice because they allow you to wade in all depths of water.
You will also need a fishing vest with lots of pockets that will hold your flies, line, and other pieces of gear. The pockets should fasten with Velcro so that you have easy access to what you need. You don't want to be on the water and realize you need a different fly only to miss out on a passing school of fish because you were fumbling with your pockets.
Besides having hooks and flies in your fishing vest, you will also need a good pair of fishing pliers. These are necessary to pull the hook out of the fishes mouth. Since fly fishing is mostly catch and release you will have to release the fish in a timely fashion to ensure that it will survive, fishing pliers are very necessary to properly remove a hook from a fish.
Finally, your fly fishing gear should include a waterproof camera. If you are lucky enough to land a whopper, you'll want to document it as part of your prize!
When you are amassing your fly fishing gear, things can eventually get out of hand. Many fly fishermen have an abundance of gear with the possibility that they might need something specific in a certain situation. That's just fine, but the essentials that are listed above are a start!

The Tirimbina Rainforest Center: Real Eco Tourism In Costa Rica
Friday, August 28, 2009
Costa Rica eco tourism takes many forms, is enjoyed or experienced in different ways, affects people differently, and provides different societal consequences-some obvious, some not. In fact, the word "eco tourism" means different things to different people.
For many travelers, Costa Rica eco tourism is about enjoying and experiencing Costa Rica's biological diversity. This little country comprises only about 1/10,000 of the world's land surface (the size of West Virginia) yet, unbelievably, nearly one of every five species of plant and animal on the globe are found in Costa Rica. The country has more kinds of butterflies than in all of the countries on the entire African continent put together. Costa Rica has recorded almost 900 different kinds of birds, nearly as many as are in the continental United States. The world's largest Green Sea Turtle preserve has been created off the Caribbean Coast at Tortuguero National Park. 35% of the world's different species of whales and porpoises (cetaceans) are found in its offshore waters. Humpback whales from Antarctica travel thousands of miles north to Costa Rica every year while Arctic humpbacks swim thousands of miles south to the very same waters. For that reason, Costa Rica has the longest humpback viewing season anywhere. Corcovado National Park is just 20 miles long and some 8 miles wide but, according to National Geographic, is "the most biologically intense place" on the globe. Tens of thousands of persons visit Costa Rica annually to see or experience these kinds of things. I call them "vacation eco tourists."
But, Costa Rica eco tourism is more diverse than Costa Rica whale watching, or a Costa Rica photography tour, scuba diving off magnificent Cocos Island, or hiking lovely jungle trails to waterfalls. And, few places exemplify that diversity of eco tourism experience better than the Tirimbina Rainforest Center. I bet you never heard of it.
The Tirimbina Rainforest Center sits on about 345 hectares, or 850 acres, of primary rain forest. This is the original rain forest that covered 99% of Central America when Christopher Columbus explored its Caribbean coast in 1502. Indeed, when you visit primary rain forest you will literally see trees that have been around since Columbus' es time. Unfortunately, over the following five centuries, burning and logging decimated most of the Central American rain forests. Today, only vestiges of this important resource remain.
The Tirimbina Rainforest Center's story goes back to 1960 when Robert Hunter arrived in Costa Rica to work for the Inter-American Institute for Science and Agriculture. He bought the land now occupied by the Center and set about to preserve it. Hunter invited scientists to the property, one of whom was Dr. Allen Young of the Milwaukee Public Museum. Dr. Young is an internationally acclaimed expert on rain forests and cacao cultivation. He, and others like him, who have visited the Center over the last decades are what I like to think of as "research eco tourists." Their work on rain forests has proved invaluable.
Dr. Young 's fascination with Tirimbina carried over to the Milwaukee Public Museum itself. In 1986, it created a permanent exhibit about the tropical rain forest that it called "Exploring Life on Earth." Over the next several decades hundreds of thousands of children, men, and women visited the Tirimbina exhibit as "virtual eco tourists" and their increasing awareness of the importance--and fragility-of rain forests have contributed to tropical forest preservation demands by the public. The Museum bought the Tirimbina Rainforest Center and managed it until its 2006 sale to a Milwaukee nonprofit called the Pura Vida Foundation. Today, the Center belongs to a Costa Rica nonprofit organization, the Asociacion Tirimbina Para La Conservacion, Investigacion y Educacion.
If you are an eco tourist or interested in real-deal Costa Rica ecotourism, I recommend visiting the Tirimbina Rainforest Center if you are: (a) A "research eco tourist." This is a working rain forest research center and for 30 years has been used for doctorate research, graduate studies, and museum related work; (b) An undergraduate looking for a one-of-a kind study abroad opportunity. Ball State University of Indianapolis has just announced a new Study Abroad in Costa Rica program at Tirimbina Rainforest Center, starting Spring Semester 2010. This program is modeled after two very popular study abroad programs in London and Australia. If this is for you, you will be a "student eco tourist" ; or (c) Simply interested in visiting a working tropical forest research center that also hosts family activities and educational projects like hiking through primary rain forest on five miles of trails; a bird tour; a frog tour; a bat tour; even a chocolate tour. There is an aerial tram tour, boat tour, and a truly amazing number of optional activities (visit the Tirimbina web page for a list) for the "family eco tourists." Accommodations and a restaurant are on site for people who want to stay overnight or for several days.
Although it has been known to the tropical forest research community for over 40 years, Tirimbina Rainforest Center is only visited by 8,000 Costa Rica eco tourists a year. It is off the beaten path but if if you are planning to travel to Costa Rica, give the Center serious consideration if you are interested in eco tourism in Costa Rica.

Leatherman Crunch: Multi-Tool Review
Wednesday, August 26, 2009
The Crunch is compact. More so than the Leatherman Wave. The design is well thought out. The Crunch comes apart and it takes a few seconds to put together. The result is a very portable mid-size functional vice-grip. The Crunch feels well built like all Leathermans. It is high quality. The Crunch comes with Leatherman's 25 year warranty. The Crunch looks like it is built to last.
The Crunch has 13 functional tools built in. I will not talk about them all but I will talk about the main tools and the ones you will be using the most. The vice-grips, serrated blade, large flat-head screwdriver, and file are the tools that will see duty the most on the Crunch. The Crunch does not have nearly as much tools as the Wave or Charge but I consider the Crunch a complimentary multi-tool. That may sound strange since to purpose of multi-tools is to fill many roles when needed, but sometimes, it is good to have 2 different multi-tools that have only the tools you need. Some people, like myself, have no need for a corkscrew so I should not carry a multi-tool with things I do not need. It would just add weight.
The downside to the Crunch is the lack of complimentary tools. Through the function of it's design, all of the other tools are smaller and limited. Also, what I did not like was the fact that it had 3 size flat head screwdrivers. The big flat head will be the most used. One thing that impressed me was the lock. All of the secondary tools lock firm and solid. You could use the screwdrivers to pry if you are in a grind. The adjusted knob for the vice grip can be removed allowing access to a hex drive. This makes it possible to expand the Crunch into a more versatile tool if coupled with a bit driver. You have to buy it separate. Do I see myself expanding this tool? No. Is it nice to have the option? Yes.
The Crunch is not perfect but it is a great complimentary multi-tool. You have you portable toolbox if you couple this with another multi-tool. Something small, say a Leatherman Juice would go nicely with it. It is definitely not as complete as a Leatherman Charge or Wave but it's still a gem and I recommend it. The Crunch provides something different in the big market of multi-tools. For me, the locking pliers was enough to sway my purchase. At around $50, it's a bargain.

Bass Fishing - A Whole New World
When it comes to a bass habitat, they can be found almost anywhere that there is freshwater. The most popular places to find bass though are in rivers and lakes. Waters that are high in oxygen are the most likely places where you are going to find some hungry bass that are willing to bite.
When it comes to the types of bass, the largemouth is the one that most bass fisherman are out to catch. The reason is they get the biggest and they also put up one heck of a fight. 10 pound and above largemouth bass are very common to catch.
The yellow and brown bullhead, followed by the channel catfish, is the most abundant in the area. They are favored by sportsman for the delicious table fare that they provide. Also harvested commercially, mainly on Lake Okeechobee, and their tasty fillets are served as an "all you can eat" favorite in most area restaurants. But it is still the bass fish that promises the challenge of the sport.
For freshwater fishing, all you really need is a pole and maybe a can of worms to catch some fish. When it comes to bass though, it gets little more technical than just that. Bass have been fished for hundreds of years, and we still do not know exactly what they like, we have a good idea though.
There are thousands of tactics that have been devised to catch bass, along with many different tackle set ups. If you asked 10 professional bass fishermen what the best set up to catch bass is, they would all give you a different answer. The best way to learn to catch bass is through trial and error.
If you are fishing for bass for the first time, then artificial bait would be my recommendation. Unless you really know what you are doing you will have a better chance at landing a bass using a lure. One of the more popular lures for catching bass is the Spinnerbait lure, which is used by professionals and beginners.
Millions of anglers go after bass when they are fishing, but very few will actually keep the bass, as they are not considered to be great food fish. One reason why someone might keep a largemouth bass would be taxidermy, other than that bass are usually always released.

European River Travel With Panache
Tuesday, August 25, 2009
One of the causes for the rising popularity of European river travel is that even for a luxury cruise prices are sill noticeably lower than for an ocean cruise, if you compare them to each other. For instance there are vary good alternatives to an expensive seaborne cruise for a family, and many will prove to be far more relaxing, as well as enriching.
For instance, a week traveling down the magnificent Rhine River, savoring the attractions and the culture of Switzerland, France, Germany and the Benelux, possibly with a few days on a side trip to another city close by, is not going to cost more than a comparable cruise in the Caribbean.
Leaving for European river travels usually entails flying out to a city, either a medium-sized one or a capital, to the departure point to meet the ship that will take you down the chosen waterway on the main leg of your trip.
European river travel will take you through some of the most beautiful cities in the region's countries, and by traveling in style you will take your own floating five star hotel along, with a service to boot.
You will in fact find that while the cruise ships plying European rivers are much smaller then their seagoing cousins, for obvious reasons, they are just as comfortable and well-furnished, with amenities to boot.
For instance, the cuisine that you will experience on a premium quality wholly catered European river cruise will be just as good as the one in the continent's most renowned hotels. You can also expect a room service that will be just as good, with luxurious rooms that will be cleaned every day.
As for the things that you will be doing during your European river travel experience, the holiday will generally be more varied than an oceangoing cruise, with a heavier emphasis on sightseeing, and the local culture. Bit there will also be a lot of time to just relax on deck, and on-board entertainment will be provided for.
In fact European river travel can offer all the luxury and panache that you may be accustomed in a high quality sea cruise, but with some extra pizazz on top. So regardless of whether you have been on a cruise boat before, this could be the year to consider booking a trip on Europe's waterways.

European River Travel: The Ideal Complement To Your Trip
Sunday, August 23, 2009
Regardless of whether you will be cruising by yourself, as a couple, or with a group of people, you will find that European river travel has something special, and that every cruise that you will take on the continent's waterways will be a trip to remember.
Compared to seaborne cruising, there is much more inland territory you can cover on a river trip, and compared to car-borne holidays you won't have to experience the discomfort of constant hotel changes. Plus who has ever heard of a river traffic gridlock?
Also, don't think that riverboats are devoid of comfort just because they are smaller then seagoing vessels. You will find that the rooms are functional but spacious, and that your cruise boat will also feature comfortable common areas such as eating and lounging spaces, as well as viewing spaces to soak in the scenery, of course.
Before looking at the boating companies that you may want to book your trip with, it would make sense to decide on the length of your voyage, as well as on the location that interests you and on the amount of amenities that you would expect to come with your package.
River trip lengths can be very variable, although the most typical ones are one or two weeks, or more. Another possibility is to spend only a short time on the river, combining it with a land-based visit. For instance, you could spend three days in Paris and then cruise down the Seine for another three days.
As for the location, trips tend to concentrate on the bigger rivers such as the Rhine, the Danube and the Seine, but there are also lesser-known alternatives, such as the tributaries of the Elbe in Germany, the Po in the north of Italy, or the rivers of Poland and European Russia.
Another crucial thing to consider is the season of the trip. The south of France or the flower-growing areas of Holland are great for a late spring or summer trip, for instance.
Trips in Germany are great in the winter months, especially if you like a traditional Christmas atmosphere and homely cooking and baking.
Concerning the level of comfort, you will find that there are a great number of alternatives, from Spartan drive-your-own houseboat hires to luxury cruse ships that have a lot in common with high-end hotels, but that retain an individual character.

Restful Traeth Bychan Beach, Near Anglesey Coastal Path, Great for Dinghy Sailing
Traeth Bychan is rocky on each side of the cove, giving way to a mixture of gravelly sand and small pebbles as the beach reaches up to the small stone and concrete boat park. This quiet location is the home of Red Wharf Bay Sailing and Watersports Club, and when we arrived on this occasion there were a number of dinghies and motor craft being towed up from the water, while a fishing boat waited for its trailer to arrive.
We saw some tired young sailors help guide a tractor down the beach from the slipway and to the water's edge and align the boat onto the trailer. Given that this beach faces east and Anglesey's south westerly prevailing winds, this is an ideal place to launch sailing boats and other craft. Here you will see Toppers, Lasers, GP14's, Mirrors and other dinghy classes.
Above the Traeth Bychan beach are thick grassy slopes which cover some interesting looking rock formations. The Anglesey coastal path runs along here on its way between Moelfre in the north to Benllech. If you would like to enjoy some views from the coastal path, it is easy to join. As you approach this cove there is a gate just behind the beach cottage, built above the high water mark, which takes you onto the footpath.
If you want a cup of coffee, tea or an ice cream, don't worry, as Traeth Bychan beach cafe is literally only about 25 metres up on the right from this small sandy cove. Next to the cafe is a public car park with space for about 25 cars. Opposite the cafe and also on the hill behind are static caravans, which could be a good vacation base for your island explorations.
A good time to come to this quiet, sheltered beach is autumn and winter, when you can really appreciate the fine sea views and coastal walks, with little if any boating activity taking place. Traeth Bychan has a historic angle which many are not aware of, relating to a maritime incident in Liverpool bay.
Built in Cammell Laird ship yard in 1938, the "T" class submarine HMS Thetis left the Mersey on 1 June 1939 with a crew of 103, sailing out to Liverpool Bay to carry out some tests. Some unusual and catastrophic events took place while she was submerged and 99 men lost their lives. A few months later, the Thetis was refloated and brought onto Traeth Bychan beach.
So this secluded beach, sometimes bustling with dinghies and small motor craft in bright summer sunshine, other times peaceful on a clear winter's morning, holds memories for some of dear ones lost in the line of duty.

In Conclusion, consider the sort of vehicle that you have obtainable for towing the boat. If all that you have is a small car then you won't be able to tow a large boat.
Taking all of these factors into consideration will assist to ensure that you purchase the right fishing boat for your needs.

Boat Seats: Buy Them Cheaply Or Get Them At No Cost

The boat may be a yacht, a powerful speedboat with outboard motors, or even a human-powered canoe. And even if it is a ferry that you work on, it's a very enjoyable way to spend your time.
Boat seats are important to have on any on these leisure activities, and even more so if it is your work that's taking you out onto the water. But it's not always desirable to pay the whole price for seating as it might turn out to be quite expensive.
Any boating hobbyist or professional will surely appreciate that if an exchange of boat seats is necessary, it is better to spend less than the full price on them.
Buying used boat seats is one of the most obvious solutions - you may be able to get very good prices by looking at the local classifieds, or at sale notices posted at your local marina. And if you have any friends that share your passion for boating, you may be able to buy seats from them if they are about to get new ones. Granted, used boat seats may need a bit of repair, but it will be worth it in the long term
If you are member of a boating club or of a fishing group, buying boat seats in bulk is another option. You may be able to get substantial discounts from a retailer if you buy five or more identical sets of boat seats.
Even if you are buying new by yourself, ask the shop if they have any special offers on boat seats. Often these are not advertised prominently, so you will need to ask. Sometimes discounts will materialize just because you asked for it, so never neglect this step!
Check aftermarket shops too. These are retailers specializing in end-of-the-line products, which are usually much cheaper than current ones. The next aftermarket shop may be out of the way so inquire about availability of boat seats over the phone in advance. It may well be worth the call!
Using the Internet is, of course, a great way to find cheaper boat seats, not only for research purposes like you are doing right now, but also to compare prices of different online retailers.
Another very cheap source of boat seats are auctions, whether online on sites such as eBay or off-line. Check the local and trade papers to fund out if any auctions are being held in the local area.

Importance of Using Bait Boats
The first thing you want to do is start setting up your bait boats. You can find the area where you need to put this bait by employing a market float. This way you can make sure that the area you use is going to be free from snags that may have a problem. Once you have done this, then you are ready for the very next step.
The next step for using bait boats is to put the boat on the unfastening mat that you have so it is going to be protected. Your rig can be pulled in from under the mat. You can place in as much bait as you suspect you want. Try to make certain that your lead and hook is straight too so that it does not get twisted or tangled up.
You'll want to have some bank sticks set up when you're taking out the bait boats. This way you can ensure that the wind doesn't take out your line and this way you keep the rod in the same position all the time.
When it is time to take out the bait boats, ensure you go out towards the marker float that you have. Try to keep the line awfully tight so that there is no slack. Wait till you're feeling the lead hit the bottom and then you can pull in the slack in the line, but ensure you don't move the hook away from all of the bait that you have down there.
You can use more than one rig when you are dealing with bait boats as well. However, some folk believe that they are best to only use one rig so they do not get all tangled up with the bait ship or with another rig.

Bait boats can be employed very effectively if you are aware of what you are doing, but they're not the simplest things to use. They are also pretty pricey, so you want to make sure you will know what you do before you make a decision to buy and use bait boats for yourself.

The Best Fishing Lures To Trap The Fish
Monday, August 17, 2009
Sometimes it might be difficult to get hold of live bait before you go fishing. Therefore, it would be a wise option to go for quality fishing lures that can take care of such a situation. The use of quality equipment can help the fisherman get lucky while getting hold of that big catch.
The main purpose of fishing lures is to imitate the movements of the prey. It also displays the colors of the real prey to mislead the fish by displaying itself as live bait. In some events these lures have more than one hook that makes it possible for the fisherman to catch multiple fish at a time.
Once the fish is attracted to the fishing lure, it bites the same while being trapped in the hook and being pulled out of the water by the fisherman. The lures are attached to the fishing poles and are inserted into the water to catch the fishes. The lures are reeled back by the fisherman to display the movement of the actual bait.
When the correct type of reeling action is used, the fisherman can show them off as live baits to a potential catch. Once the fish gets attracted to the lures, they try to bite it. During this action, the hook gets set in the mouth of the fish helping the fisherman to reel the fish from the water.
While going out for fishing, it is important to select the right kind of lures based on the type of fish that is wanted. There are different kinds of fishing lures such as spoon lures, artificial flies, soft baits, and plugs. The spoon lures reflect light in the water that give it the appearance of small fish.
For the fly-fishing activity the fisherman should make use of the artificial flies' kind of lure. This is because the lure can be made to hop on the surface of the water showing themselves as small insects. The fish gets attracted to the hopping action and tries to bite the lure. Once they do that, the hook is attached to their face allowing the fisherman to pull them out of the water. Soft baits are also used for the fishing activity. These baits replicate organisms such as frogs and worms. They are made of plastic or rubber.

My Seadoo And Summer Camping Weekends
Saturday, August 15, 2009
Every weekend of the warm summer months (except for the occasional wedding that we have to attend) I get out of town with my camp gear all packed up, and my seadoo hooked up and covered ready for trailering. This is my favorite time of year, and it seems that every year I convince another one of my friends to buy a seadoo and join my growing gang of buddies who also spend their weekends camping and seadooing.
The campground that me and my buddies have chosen as this years permanent weekend spot is about a 2 hour drive away. That means that I can finish up work a half hour early on Friday, and barring any cottager traffic jams I make it up to the site in time to setup the tent and put the seadoo into the lake in time for a quick spin. This still gives us time to get supper started before dark. If we start the campfire at the same time, the timing works out so we always eat our first meal of the weekend by campfire light.
The first day of the weekend is when I get the whole mini-vacation started. First thing Saturday morning I usually get up by myself so I can get out on the lake just to do a tour and see what's new in the last week. I take a travel cup of coffee with me, and get on the seadoo at super low speed so I can do the rounds without disturbing too many of my neighbors with the high speed pwc driving by. It takes about an hour, but then I make my way back to the campsite and join the family for a typical camping big breakfast.
I think that my buddies and I have just about the best seadoo outings on the lake of anyone else I know. If you have a few buddies to ride with, the seadoo activities you can do are endless. Sometimes we throw out some buoys to make a slalom course, other times we just end up holding doughnut and 360 competitions. Of course we don't take it overboard, and safety is our primary thought.
Sunday afternoons always seem to arrive by surprise and fair too early. Generally by 4pm, I have had my final Seadoo ride and I'm beginning to tear down the camp site. Any fish that hasn't been consumed is divvied up amongst the group and packed in ice for the trip home. With sadness we put our Seadoo covers on our Seadoo PWCs and make our way back to city.

Boat Value Determination For Beginners
Even more so if you have not appraised a boat's value before, either as a buyer or as someone who wants to sell, you should be aware that the lack of experience may let you make an error that will cost you a lot. The only workaround to this is that you inform yourself thoroughly before making an assessment.
For instance, if you are the prospective buyer of a watercraft, whether new or used, don't just pick the boat that seems to be the greatest value from the start. Learn what to look for exactly, and you will not risk being dazzled by the smooth talk of the seller but will be able to make a much more informed decision.
Research on boat value appraisal will actually not only save you money, but has the added benefit of allowing you to better pinpoint the kind of characteristics that you want your boat to have, and as a result you will end up buying a boat that will be right for you, rather than getting a flashy vessel and then finding out that you were really in need of something else.
Boat value appraisal research can come in many forms, but a good start is usually achieved by reading about it. Start with trade magazines, available at most well-equipped press shops, and you will find a wealth of information on current boating prices, trends and features at your fingertips.
Besides the general; trades, there are specialist magazines for different kinds of boats, such as fishing pontoons, sailing craft, or outboard motorboats. These ones are not only useful for the information, but also because toy will find a wealth of classifieds that are relevant to the kind of boat you want and that you can use for some first rough comparisons.
Listings, whether online or through magazines, are a highly useful source to get an idea of current values for boat appraisal, although of course you can learn less from them on the impact on price of factors such as features and state of repair. Another great source of pricing information are BUC and NADA guides.
NADA covers motor boats and personal watercraft, outboard motors and boat trailers from 1978 to the present year, while BUC has been around since 1961 and also covers sailing craft, including multihull craft such as catamarans. In both cases, the given price is an average value and you will have to factor in other variables such as condition, location and accessories.
However, while DIY evaluation is perfectly OK for small boats, if the ship or vessel that you are going to trade is expected to fetch more fifty thousand dollars, a professional appraisal will very probably be able to help you fetch you the best prices for your vessel, and the additional expense will well be worth it.

GPS Fish finders are the perfect Accessory for Your boat
Friday, August 14, 2009
GPS fish finders are a touch more pricey when compared to other styles, particularly the transportable fish finder, but the price could be worth it for all of the features it provides.
GPS fish finders like the Garmin GPSmap 440S offer photograph mapping with aerial footage of waterways, marinas and navigation landmarks. This unit uses satellite images for the entire coast of the US including Hawaii, Alaska and the Bahamas.
GPS fish finders can also be used inland on lakes and other waterways. The Garmin GPSmap 530S provides coast to coast maps for the inland waters of the U. S. . This unit also provides area info for over 5000 of these bodies of water.
By employing inland GPS fish finders, you'll have details at the tip of your fingers on such info as marina locations, campgrounds, mile markers, boat ramps and depth contours.
GPS fish finders are the best fish finder to use for fishing in deep waters. They have multiple frequency transducers which let you see fish up to 1500 feet deep.
GPS fish finders also provide real time weather reports which include weather radar for tracking storm cells. This data informs you of wind speeds, water surface temperatures and typhoon forecasts so you'll always be on top of the weather while you are on your ship.
GPS fish finders have the best displays. The screens are on high resolution and can be viewed in daylight and shade. The Garmin GPSmap 545S has a five inch diagonal display. Some units also provide split screen capacity.
GPS fish finders are on the higher end but prices vary seriously for this type of fish-finder. You can spend a few hundred bucks or about a thousand. For instance the Lowrance HDS-10 is at the higher end of the price scale. It contains info on over 100,000 bodies of water. It's got a 10.4 in. VGA split screen color display.
It will pay to look around when shopping for GPS fish finders. You'll be able to find some good deals if you look online. You can even buy one used and save even more.
If you do not own a boat, then GPS fish finders are doubtless not the best fish finder for you. You could prefer to own a movable fish finder so you can take it regardless of what boat you fish from. GPS fish finders are good for folks who spend plenty of time on their ship in open waters.
GPS fish finders are perhaps the best fish finder you can buy just because they have so many features. If you spend a lot of time in your boat, GPS fish finders are very valuable. They're going to provide you with detailed maps, weather conditions, satellite imagery, local information and sonar information that will help you in finding the fish.

A Few Things To Remember When Fly Fishing
Wednesday, August 12, 2009
This brand of fishing is commonly done when the individual's legs are submerged under water; this gives the individual a more plumbed angle with the edge of the stream providing optimum positioning during fly fishing. The rod typically consists of fiberglass or graphite and the reel is round like a disk. In addition, this type of fishing uses a fly to float the bait without weighting it to the bottom; the fly is meant to lightly land on the top of the water. The size for bait is indicative to what size trout you are going for. If big fish take up home in the pond or brook, it is best to use a medium kind of fly. Big flies are typically used for larger breed fish, for instance: Steel-head and Salmon.
Fly fishing, though, is different from all other types of fishing. It takes the right technique in the release of the fly and specifically how the bait taps the surface of the water. While the fisherman is wading in the brook or stream, he/she must whip the fly back and forth in the air a few times and then release the fly lightly to the top of the water in front of him/her. This action is key to the mastering of fly fishing; if cast improperly, the angler will go home empty-handed. So, it takes practice to become proficient and start landing trout.
The rod is the most contributory instrument to the action created when casting or reeling. While the enthusiast requires practice to improve the action of the fly to the water, the rod is also a major component of the casting ability and landing abilities. A rod with medium action will handle medium sized fish without risking the loss of some of the larger fish; this type is best for beginners. But, fast action styles are for the big fish as they reduce the risk of loosing a large fish during landing.
One must not get agitated when learning this sport. Many individuals can get disgusted and discouraged when they start out because they cannot get a fish to take the bait because their casting has not yet been perfected. Or, maybe they can't seem to bring in the fish after they have set the hook into the fish. These are skills that take time to develop and do not come overnight. The main thing other than catching fish, is getting outside to enjoy mother nature and the river. Many brookes, like the ones in Colorado, are breathtaking and sport views that are unique and simply amazing!

A Gold Coast Fishing Charter: An Experience of A Lifetime
There are two types of Gold Coast fishing charters: deep sea, which is the most common and calm water.
Calm water fishing, such as that undertaken in the Broadwater by Gold Coast fishing charter operators, generally use small boats that transport up to six passengers. The kind of fish they target include bream, flat head and whiting. Light tackle is used. It's not unusual for deep sea fish such as snapper to be caught in such shallower waters.
Mostly Gold Coast fishing charter operators take people deep sea fishing. Out there, it is not uncommon to catch big game fish such as marlin. Aside from fishing ,there are other unique experiences to be had such as viewing dolphins and whales as well as the tremendous view of the Gold Coast coastline with it's majestic background of the mountainous hinterland.
The target fish, when fishing offshore varies between the winter and summer seasons. Gold Coast fishing charter operators tailor the fishing according to these two seasons.
During the summer season, warm water currents flow from the north which can make fishing the deeper reefs (60-90 meters) for bottom dwelling fish quite difficult. On the upside though, the warm currents bring with them many fast pelagic fish such as black marlin, wahoo, mahi mahi and various species of tuna. The other alternative in the summer employed by Gold Coast fishing charters is to target the reefs closer to shore where snapper, teraglin, tailor and a variety of other bottom dwellers are typically caught.
On Gold Coast fishing charters, the pelagic fish are caught using small live baits whilst for reef fishing (for bottom dwelling fish species) various types of bait are used.
What is the fishing strategy of Gold Coast fishing charters during the winter season when the larger pelagic fish will have moved on? The ideal is to fish the deeper reefs where snapper, amberjack, kingfish and teraglin abound. Alternatively large cobia can be caught off the reefs closer to shore.
Are Gold Coast fishing charters attractive just for those wanting to fish? Certainly not. The winter season is an ideal time to observe whales, dolphins, turtles and other creatures of the wild. Also there is an abundance of bird life such as gannets and albatross. Which ever season you choose to go on a Gold Coast fishing charter your experience will be unique and memorable.

Heres Why So Many Fishing Kayaks Are Sold Every Month
Monday, August 10, 2009
You can sneak into 2ft deep water, back into areas where you would never find a big boat. When was the last time you seen a big rig down in the lumber yard at the south end of the lake? I get down there all the time. We used to have to anchor our big rig back there, and get out to wade fish up and down the shore.
Wading the bank worked for the most part, but usually only during the spawning season. This time of the year, the fish rarely abandon their bed for anything, even a fishermen that may have spooked them any other time of the year. Fishing kayaks allow you to spot the beds, or fish from a distance, and stay quiet and stealthy to approach them.
Another example of why people are buying so many fishing kayaks lately, is because of the ease of storing it. You can't put your bass boat in the hallway upside down, or any boat for that matter. With 4-5 fishing kayaks, you can easily mount them or hang them upside down. This many kayaks allows you to take your entire family, and maybe even a friend.
I do this, and trust me, my fiance disagrees, and believes I don't need that many boats. Fishing Kayaks force people to know what gear is necessary to catch fish, and only take it out for the day. After discovering this, I sold just about all of my tackle, and used the profits to get a kayak, and also enjoy a nice little vacation to Bimini. I had a good bit of gear.
Outrageous gas prices effect people buying fishing kayaks heavily. I have blown a grand on more than one occasion, just boating around on the weekend with my family. When we finally got rid of it, it hurt me to think about how much time and money went into it.
In short terms, it is outrageously expensive running big boats in todays economy. It was even worse when gas was touching five bucks a gallon. Using the electric motors was useless, as it cost more to charge it, and they rarely lasted an hour at most.
Times are getting tougher now a days, and more are starting to see that you can enjoy fishing kayaks for a very little investment. Fishing kayaks hold their value as well, especially if you purchase used, you can usually get what you paid for it when it comes time to sell.

Sailing Cruise Vacations Information
Sunday, August 9, 2009
One of the main aspects of cruising on a sail boat is relaxing. The reason why such cruises are so relaxed is because the majority of your power is due to wind. If there's no wind, then you won't be able to sail very far. However, don't worry, sailboats do have small motors which are used when docking or going to port.
If you want an action packed adventure and want activity after activity, then this ship is not for you. On-board activities are very limited when sailing and the majority of your entertainment will come from talking with other passengers and socializing around the dinner table at meal time. You will be able to do more activities on shore when you go to port then on-board. Sometimes the crew will allow you to help out with the sails, but don't hold your breath.
How about if there is no wind? Don't worry, each ship is equipped with a small motor and the engine will be adequate to propel the boat when the sails are down. You won't be able to sail with natural wind for a lot of the trip as there just isn't enough wind in many of the locations to naturally sail. Most of the time, you will be sailing at night (when there's more wind) and a portion of the afternoon. Other times, you will only sale a little bit and will cruise with an engine.
Is sailing is what you have in mind, then make sure that the sail boat is 100% capable to sail. Some cruise ships say that they are sail boats but never put up the sail. This is because they have computerized motors that determine when the sails should go or down. This will defeat the whole purpose of going on your sailing cruise if you never have a chance to see the sails!
