Put These Items on Your Camping Checklist A Camping Checklist Makes Packing Easier

By Ben Martinez

Do you struggle trying to remember what to bring on a camping trip? Having a camping checklist will make packing for your camping trip faster, easier, and most importantly, you won't forget the essentials. For example, extra tent stakes, personal medications.

Start your checklist with the most inherent part of a camping trip; the shelter. Wind and rain can make a very uncomfortable camping trip, if your intent is not waterproof and cannot stay upright when its windy. For example, a heavy rainstorm. Bringing an extra tarp to cover the entrance of your tent, will keep rain from entering through the flaps. Using an extra tarp under your tent protects the floor against wetness. Don't forget a hammer or mallet, for the tent stakes.

When the weather turns cold, it's important to have brought a sleeping bag able to withstand temperatures below freezing. Its a good idea to bring comfort items such as extra blankets, a pillow, an air mattress and air mattress repair kit, and a broom and dustpan to sweep dirt and leaves from the bottom of the tent.

Camping areas are notoriously dangerous, that's why it's so essential to bring a fully equipped first-aid kit. Restock everything or via a brand-new kit before you leave. In a separate emergency kit include flashlights, accompanists, a GPS navigator, bug spray, a water filter, extra rope, EPIpen, a pen and paper, personal medications, a water filter, ipecac syrup, sunscreen, Chapstick, and batteries. Don't forget an ax, gloves and a fire extinguisher. It wouldn't hurt to bring your cell phone on umbrella and sunglasses as well.

While there's a long list of toiletries, which can make you more comfortable, it's important to bring your toothbrush and toothpaste, deodorant, toilet paper, tampons, shampoo, which you also use a soap, a hairbrush and deodorant. You might also like to bring some shaving cream if you're inclined to shave.

Next on your list are your toiletries, which would include shampoo(bring enough to double as soap), toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant, a hairbrush, toilet paper, razors and feminine hygiene products. While many men choose not to shave while camping, it might also be helpful to bring some shaving cream.

Lastly prepare your cooking items; water, water pitcher, coolers, thermos, silverware (plastic), spatula, meat fork, dish soap, knife, foil, Tupperware, a can opener, cups, cookware, fire starters, coffee pot and trashbags. If you're planning on roasting marshmallows or makings s'mores, don't forget to bring skewers. And roasting marshmallows is never fun without peppermint schnapps.

While camping, you're probably going to enjoy hiking and fishing and maybe mountain biking, so don't forget to bring the equipment. You might also want to bring your camera and some games for the kids.

No check list will have every item that you need, but they're still useful to save you time. You want to include any extra items, not mentioned in this article, on your own lists

The Bait That Never Dies

By Hasse Hansen

Someone who is new to fishing might be overwhelmed by the number of different bait and lures that is on the market today. They might even ask if it is any point in using all of them. The answer to that question is of course no, most of them can be ignored.

One lure should not be forgotten though. It is an all time classic that still is on top of its game. It catches fish today like it has done for several decades, if not centuries.

The bait that I am talking about is the spinner. This bait has been used for so many years that it, in normal circumstances would have been retired. That is not the case with spinners. With all the new technology in the fishing industry, these old school spinners still do the trick just as good as any other lures. If not better!

For a trout fisherman, a spinner should be the first thing he gets for his new lure box. The trout just seem to love them. Luckily there are enough spinners to choose from in the stores today. The most popular spinner manufacturers on the market today are probably Blue Fox and Mepps. This varies a bit from place to place, but these two are usually right on top on every list.

The best known spinner in the world is probably Mepps Black Fury. It is truly a legend. If you have never used a spinner but have a picture in your head of one, this is probably the one you are thinking of. It has an unprecedented record for catching trout.

Blue Fox most known spinners is the Vibrax series. It is also one of the classic spinners that almost everyone has tried. Compared to the Black Fury, you have a lot more colors to choose from with your Vibrax spinner.

The secret behind the success of spinners is a two part tale. The first part is about the alluring movement in the water. The second part is about that low humming sound it makes. Either way, the fish thinks that it looks delicious and just loves to bite at it!

Here's Some Of The Facts You Need To Know About Bass Fishing Boats

By Chris Douglas

Bass fishing has the most participants of any other sport on earth. More people when polled as to their likes and participation in sports declared that they preferred fishing to any other sport available and bass fishing was very high on the list. In order to get to where the fish are and make your day of fishing a productive one, you must have a suitable boat that is tailored to the type of fishing you will be doing. Saltwater bass fishing boats are designed much differently from fresh water bass fishing boats, and there are multitudes of differences in each category as you look more deeply into the world of boats and what they can provide for you.

The greatest dividing line between types of boats for bass fishing is the material that the boat is made of. The large majority of boats are aluminum and are designed to be not only easy to maneuver in the water, but also easy to transport on a trailer or even on the roof of your vehicle. They are welded and fitted with rivets which have a tendency to rust over time, so with that in mind; now enters the rival field of bass fishing boats, the fiberglass group. Fiberglass is not only more durable but quite often is lighter in weight, will not rust, no chipped paint to worry about, and provides a drier storage for boat maintenance as well as not being as vulnerable to dings and damage as the aluminum boats are.

Here's a big factor when it comes to choosing a boat for your needs, and that is what type of fishing will you be doing, where do you like to fish (salt water vs. fresh water), and how much money to you have to spend on a boat and all that goes with it. The list of boats available is staggering and includes such types as aluminum fishing boats, dinghies, electric boats, center console models, bass boats, flat boats and on and on. Consider how the boat will be used when looking at the various types; for example, center console boats are used in off shore fishing and are designed to handle heavy, deep water whereas flat bass fishing boats are designed to work well in shallow water equipped with an electric trolling motor so it makes it easier for you to catch the fish napping.

Just as there are many many types of boats, there are just as many if not more features to think about and decide upon when choosing one of the many types of bass fishing boats out there. And make sure you stay within your budget; don't make your choice of boat an albatross around your neck further on down the road because you did not do your homework well and bought a boat without any preparation or thought to how much it would set you back cost-wise. Keep in mind that most boats that would be used for bass fishing vary in length from 16 to 26 ft., and are capable of carrying up to 5 people max. Many of the features available are rod holders, cup holders, live-wells for holding the fish, and many types of motors ranging from outboards to electric trolling motors. You can get to where you need to go with any of the motors available to you in all kinds of price ranges, and the horsepower of these motors varies anywhere from 25 to 150 giving you plenty of choices to pick from.

What would our lives be without regulations to keep us in line, and with bass fishing it is the same story. There are mandatory requirements on bass fishing boats as well and two of the main ones are that you must have live-wells on the boat to harbor the fish after they are caught, and you must have an electric trolling motor mounted on the bow of the boat. To make sure the boat is always stable in the water and able to move about unencumbered, you are limited as to how much gear you can stow on board and how many people can be on the boat. A little common sense goes a long way when it comes to being on the water, and the regulations applied to bass fishing boats are designed to keep the best interests of the participants at hand so the fishing trip is fun for all and uneventful (except for the amount of fish you've caught.)

Safety is one the most concerns that people have when out on a boat, and the number one factor in making sure you are protected is that everyone on the boat should be wearing a life jacket. The other main thing to remember is to have fire extinguishers on board and located in strategic places where they will do the most good in the time of need. Have them accessible and placed near the motor or the engine, and near the galley where most fires are likely to occur. Just using common sense and making sure that these rules are followed will ensure that your day will be a fun one and not marred by tragedy.

Only you can decide what is right for you when it comes to picking out and using any one of the myriad types of bass fishing boats out there, and being prepared with the facts before you go looking is most important because you will end up with what you want and need, and you will save yourself a lot of grief in the long run as well as get the most for your money. Ultimately, your goal is to have a boat that will last for as long as you need it to without creating worries for you and extra forays into your life savings. There is nothing more pleasurable to a "dyed in the wool" angler than a day of bass fishing on his favorite watering hole in his dream of a boat; and that can be a reality for you too if you plan ahead and don't leave the happening of a "good time was had by all" to chance.

Night Stalking for Crappie: Catching More Crappie at Night

By Curtis Williams

When you are thinking about going fishing, day or night, crappie can be great choice. These are large sunfish that live in freshwater, and they grow to be upwards of one foot in length and weigh in between a pound and two pounds. Remember that these fish are perfect when you want to fish for something lean. Crappie is a great fish to eat in the morning for breakfast, so why not head out night fishing?

Get a Submersible Light or a Headlamp. If you are going night fishing, you are going to need a headlamp or a submersible light. Remember that you should also choose a light that you can attach to the fishing line with the bait that you are using. These lights can actually trick sleeping fish into thinking that it is day time!

Look for Shallow Water With a Lot of Cover. Remember that unless you have a special spot in mind, you should look for something very specific. Take some time and look for an area that is near the bank or in the shallows at the dock. Look for places that are no deeper than twenty feet. A dock will let you hang up your light very effectively and it can also help you bring in the plankton, which in turn bring the minnows, which in turn will bring in the crappies that you are looking for. This is an impressively easy way to bring the crappies towards your area and you'll find that it is very effective as well. Make sure that you don't underestimate the importance of picking a good spot.

Use a Good Fishing Rod Holder. This is true for fishing at any time of day, but at night, you are going to find that a fishing rod holder is essential. Remember that above all, you do not want to lose the fishing rod that you brought along. Take some time to paint the tip of your fishing rod white. This will let you see when you have a crappie taking the pat.

Take Advantage of an Electronic Depth Finder. When you want to know precisely what is going on underneath you, consider getting an electronic depth finder. A model that is of high quality will tell you what is happening below you and where the crappie are.

Replicate Your Day's Success. Remember that when you are using a headlamp or a submersible light, you are going to be able to stimulate fishing for crappies during the day. The techniques to catch crappies who think it is light include using a blend of dark and light jigs, and if you see a gang of bait fish under your light, don't hesitate to use minnows as as pbait as well. Finally, remember that you can always drop fishing lines at various depths and allow the lines to float freely until you start getting the bites that you need.

When you love crappie fishing and you wouldn't mind a delicious breakfast, take some time to consider how much fun night fishing for crappie might be!

Fishing Rods - Some Tips

By Hans Larsen

If you want to buy a new fishing rod, it is not as easy as it seems. People often get the wrong rod when they go to the store. Usually this is because the guy in the store will try to sell them anything just to get a sale.

To find the perfect rod for your fishing can seem nearly impossible. There are so many producers and brands out there on the market that you will have to be some kind of expert to find just what you need. However, a little knowledge will get you well on your way.

Be sure to know what casting weight you are looking for when buying a rod. It limits your options considerably and gives you a much easier job. This is the most important thing about a rod.

If you get the casting weight wrong you will have trouble for one of two reasons. The first one is that if you get a rod that is meant for heavy lures while you are fishing with light lures, you will never get your lure out to where the fish is.

It is just as bad to get a rod that is too light. The rod will be in great danger of either breaking or betting serious injury when casting with lures that are to heavy. You will also have big problems getting your fish in to shore, and the rod might even break then.

Fishing rods are usually dealt in to different classes. The first one is ultra light action. This is of course for the lightest fishing you can imagine in streams and small ponds.

Upwards we have light action, medium action and medium heavy action. All these rods are perfect for the situations they are meant to be used for.

The last category is the heavy action rods. These rods is what you can call the bad boys of fishing. Usually very stiff and hard, they are perfect to fish for the biggest species out there.

A Guide to Costa Rica Attractions

By Victor C. Krumm

Costa Rica is a very small Central American country bordered by Nicaragua to the north and Panama to the south. Many who visit find a tropical paradise. It got its name 600 years ago by Christopher Columbus who, when he landed along its Caribbean coast was so enraptured he named the place 'Costa Rica' or the 'Rich Coast'.

In a region often known for its instability, Costa Rica stands alone. Though tumultuous Nicaragua is to the north and Panama is to its south, it constitutionally abolished its military nearly 70 years ago. Today, along with Switzerland, it is one of only two countries with no army. The country is particularly famous for its wide biodiversity. There is an abundance of beautiful rain forests, cloudforests, rugged mountains and, of course, its amazing beaches, all close at hand.

Costa Rica tourism is struggling due to the world's economic problems. Still, a challenge always presents an opportunity and today is no exception. Now may be exactly the time to travel to Costa Rica. Airfares are down and you will find some great travel and accommodation bargains. To check out a few, simply Google 'visitcostarica.com/crplus' to go to the Costa Rica government's official Institute of Tourism (ICT) website that has discount coupons but lots and lots of other hotels and resorts are offering special prices right now.

Costa Rica is world famous for the diversity of its animals and plants. As small as it is, Costa Rica has set aside nearly 25% of the country for protected national park and wildlife sanctuaries. How small is it? Think tiny, but mighty: only the size of little West Virginia, it has more species of butterflies than in all of the countries on the African continent combined. It is birdwatchers' nirvana with nearly as many different kinds of birds as in the entire continental United States and only about 100 fewer species than the entire continent of Europe. The diversity of life is simply staggering. Though it takes up only 1/10,000 of the earth's land mass, nearly 1 of every 5 species of plant and animal on the face of the planet is found in Costa Rica!

You will also find some the world's most famous volcanoes here. Arenal Volcano is a tourist hotspot, with resorts built around hot springs where you can loll in luxury, drink a margarita, and perhaps watch the fabulous eruptions of this volcano. There is also Irazu, just outside San Jose. Here, on the day in 1963 that John F. Kennedy visited Costa Rica, a monstruous eruption greeted the President---I like to think of it as a salute. And, only here on a clear day can you drive to the top of its summit, look into its crater, then look west and see the Pacific Ocean, or look east and see the Atlantic ocean. Or, look at both of them at the same time! This ain't Dubuque!

Do not forget Costa Rica's Seven Wonders, chosen by Ticos themselves. Two great volcanoes: mighty Arenal Volcano and spectacular Poas Volcano near San Jose International. World famous for its ecotourism is Monteverde Cloudforest Reserve with its great plant and animal diversity---including its spectacular orchids! Hop a boat for a get-away to magnificent Cocos Island (300 miles off the coast), described as the "most beautiful island in the world" by Jacques Cousteau, a famous pirate island with millions of dollars of still-missing buried treasure, and the best large animal diving anywhere. The tallest mountain in Central America is called Mount Chirripo where you will hike from tropical forests to glacial lakes. Unknown to most folks is the Rio Celeste (Celestial River) where the river changes, literally and almost magically, from crystal clear to sky-blue in front of your eyes. And, for real nature lovers, there is remote Tortuguero National Park along the Caribbean coast, the world's largest protected area for green sea turtles and waters teeming with great sportfish.

No vacation is complete without visiting several of its simply amazing beaches. You are going to find nearly 800 miles of beaches: white sand beaches, brown sand beaches, black sand beaches, even coral beaches. Along two oceans. Dozens have been awarded the famed 'Blue Flag' certificates meaning they are the best of the best ecologically. The north Pacific coast is increasingly developed with great resorts, hotels, and golf courses. Meanwhile, the Caribbean coast remains far more undeveloped while maintaining its particular Caribbean flavor. There are very popular beaches (particularly over Easter and Christmas) and virtually deserted beaches. To go from one to another is often just a few minutes' drive.

Here is a partial list of more things to do and attractions to see during the days: 1. Fish for marlin (I recently fought a 450 pounder before releasing it), sailfish, tarpon, snook, and dozens of other denizens. 2. Surf world famous beaches or watch world-championship surfing contests. 3. Raft or kayak in whitewater that will take your breath away or leisurely raft a tropical river with the kids. 4. Golf at courses designed by world-famous designers. 5. Windsurf at Lake Arenal. 6. Bungee jump into deep canyons or at night. 7. Ecotourism. 8. Zipline through tropical forests. 9. Go to a bullfight (where only the bullfighters are allowed to be harmed). 10. Horseback ride in the mountains or along the beaches. 11. Hang-glide. 12. Rappel waterfalls. 13. Take a train ride---in a genuine Swiss train to a genuine Swiss mountain hotel. 14. Visit Corcovado, the most biologically intense place on earth. 15. Scuba or skin dive. 16. Whale watch (Costa Rica has the world's longest whale-watching season). 17. Visit tropical gardens or tour coffee plantations. 18. Bike, hike, rent motorcycles. 19. Hike into the crater of an active volcano. 19. Visit an African wildlife park. 20. Take a photography or eco tour. 21. Take a volunteer vacation. And more!

The capital is definitely worth a visit too. At night, San Jose and most of the beach communities provide lots of adult entertainment. Restaurants, theatres, cinemas, bars, nightclubs (many, very adult in tone and tenor), gambling, and beautiful women---what happens here, stays here. And for lesbians and gays, there are an increasing number of places to go and things to do as well.

How To Choose An Appropriate Fly Fishing Rod And How To Make It Last

By Paul Mancini

There aren't too many fishermen who excel with talent alone. No matter how talented a fisherman is, if his rod is not good enough, his chances of landing a consistent haul of fish will remain slim. That is because his equipment will hinder rather than help his ability. Just as a tennis player needs a great racket, the same goes for a fly fisherman's fishing pole.

Fly Fishing is a great sport that many people find enjoyable. It is always a huge challenge to get an elusive fish to strike a bait, but casting for hours on a cool stream, even in the absence of a strike, can be quite relaxing. But regardless of the challenge and the relaxation that fly fishing offers, the goal of the sport is still to catch some fish. Barring some rotten luck and circumstances that are really unfavorable for catching a fish, a reasonable fishing pole is necessary for a large fish.

If you are a mere beginner at fishing, it's perfectly all right to use a simple fishing rod and reel - nothing too snappy and nothing too elaborate. When you are just starting out with fishing, you should pick up a good book to give you a few pointers. You may also garner a tip or two on which fishing pole to purchase.

A simple fly fishing pole is good for those just starting out. Once you have gained some experience with this form of angling, you might want to consider a better fishing rod that is designed for advanced users, a fly fishing rod that will really get your game going. In this case, how do you choose a fly fishing rod that is just right for your needs? In order for you to make this decision, you'll need to know what kind of fish you will be attempting to catch. Different types of fish are caught using different length poles and different weights of line.

Flexibility is also a necessary trait to consider when choosing a fly fishing rod. It is important that your fly rod is flexible enough, something that can withstand the weight of the particular fish and something that will not snap at your face when you are fighting against a struggling fish. When shopping for a fly rod, don't hesitate to hold it in your hand and make a few false casts to see how it performs.

Once you have found a fly fishing rod that you think is right for you, go ahead and buy it. A good fishing rod is an investment, and if you select carefully, it can last you a lifetime if you maintain it properly.

If you are still not quite sure just what kind of fly fishing pole you should purchase then go ahead and buy a few secondhand fly fishing rods. Once you've settled on the right fly pole to ultimately purchase, you can always sell your secondhand rods or keep them as backups.

As we have already alluded to, a good fishing rod is a good investment that will give you a lifetime of angling enjoyment. But your rod will only last if you take care of it properly. Taking care of a fly rod is simple - it only requires cleaning and oiling.

To clean your fishing rod, you start by dismantling the reel from the rod and cleaning the reel in warm water and drying it thoroughly. After that, get a screw driver and unscrew the reel plate so you could get a look at the inside the reel.

Once you have the reel inside exposed, carefully remove all the debris you find on the inside of the reel with a few Q-tips. Be absolutely certain that you have cleaned all the dirt out. Then, once the reel is nice and clean, lubricate the mechanism inside the reel and replace the reel plate.

Fly fishing is a really enjoyable hobby, and to get the most enjoyment out of it, you should use a fly fishing rod that works well for you. When you have made the investment in a good fly rod, protect your investment by cleaning it regularly.

These Key Items In Your Fishing Gear Must Not Be Forgotten

By Ferdinand Emy

One of the most important buys that you will make when starting to acquire fishing gear is the acquisition of your fishing poles. While the quality of your fishing poles is not what necessarily determines what kind of fish you can catch, having good fishing poles on hand can make a tremendous difference in how comfortable it is for you to fish.

. .

What sets high quality fishing poles apart from their cheaper counterparts is the level of durability and provisions used in their making. Best quality fishing poles are built with hard material that are capable of bending and in most instance, what prevents the pole from the breaking under strain is its ability to bend.

For instance, children's rods are normally designed to handle little fish. However, because the poles are usually highly pliable to account for the tendency of children to roughly pull on the pole, they are able to handle some species of larger fish because the pole is able to bend. This is the kind of pole that traditionally works best for most river fishing.

As an exception, open ocean fishing poles tend to be a lot less pliable, able to hold its shape under the pull of a fish weighing hundreds of pounds. Nevertheless while dealing with tuna and other large fish, poles that easily bend will break, because the pressure from exceedingly larger fish will ofcourse go beyond the basic strenght of the pole.

If you need multi functional fishing poles, it is recommended to go with a pole that has more strength and slightly less flexibleness, as this type of pole can be utilized in most fishing circumstances. As you progress with your fishing skills, you will end up with a variety of fishing poles designed for different purposes so that you can enjoy the full spectrum of fishing and have the proper gear to do so.

SeaDoo Covers Are A PWC Owners Best Friend

By Josh Brodderick

Seadoo covers show pride of ownership. It might be your first pwc or your fifth, going to the effort of getting a properly fitted seadoo pwc cover shows that you respect your machine. Seadoos are powerful and expensive machines. Failure to treat them right will only make your machine look shabby when compared to the machines of others.

Storing your pwc in the off season is only one part of keeping your pwc in great condition. In addition to making sure that you protect your seadoo with a cover whenever it's not in use, you will also want to make sure to stay on top of any repairs that need to be made before they end up in a breakdown. This is especially true before you put it away for the winter. It's best just to get everything done before next season comes around and you forget all the little things that will cause bigger problems down the road.

Make sure the spark plugs are cleaned and change the oil. There is nothing worse for your pwc then sitting all winter with a grimy engine. Make sure the seats and dash are clean and dry. You may want to put some protective Armour All on the dash or another specific seadoo rubber protection compound. Make sure the dials are clean and dry. If you notice a water bubble in a dial now is the time to fix that problem. Your local marina will be able to pop the dial out, dry it off and re-seal it.

Your choice of seadoo cover will depend a lot on where you intend to store your machine over the winter. If you intend to leave it outside then you will want a winterized cover. These covers will provide ultimate protection against the snow and the ice.

Storing inside offers many more options for choosing a pwc cover for your seadoo. You can re-use your summer cover or the cover you use to trailer your seadoo. If your cover protects your seadoo, but allows your seadoo to breathe over the winter, this will allow the maximum protection without accumulating damage from moisture buildup.

Over the years I've had many seadoo covers, of all shapes and sizes, and just as many materials and ranges of quality. Of course, I'm lucky to have owned seadoos for the better part of my adult life, but needing to protect my pwcs for all those years gave me the chance to figure out what a difference quality makes when it comes to pwc covers.

If you respect your passion for seadoos then you need to treat your machines with respect. Choose a seadoo cover that is right for your needs and you will not regret it.

Rainbow Sandals Battle Of The Paddle Won By Chuck Patterson

By Mike Freedman

I couldn't sleep the night before the biggest stand up paddle event to date because all I could think of was how amazing this would be!

Small shorepound today, with more on the way tomorrow. Rainbow Sandals event organizers Barrett Tester and Pat Huber and their crew have the beach dressed like a rock concert. Met young Slater Trout, got some shots of him, very unique paddle style. He is fired up; gonna give the big boys a run for the money.

Guys and girls are checking each others gear out. Ekolu Kalama shows up in a Hummer with his board inside! Chuck Patterson is so focused. This, Dana Point, California, is his home. He really wants to go big in his own front yard.

Patterson uses all the latest tech advantages he can get his hands on from Extreme Clean, which makes the underside extremely slippery, to Monster Paint which is used add traction to the top. He has lost at least ten pounds for this event and is super fit. His new Hobie carbon fiber race board is ready to go.

Chuck took one look at some of the lighter weight guys showing up,like Slater and Odie Sumi"and got a bit worried. In this race, board size is limited, so all things being equal in the typically calm conditions, a lighter guy should have an advantage.

In order to even out the competitive edge the lighter guys had, Chuck needed some nasty wave conditions. Well, he go his wish and laughed all the way to the bank with his prize money! He earned every cent.

The night before the big race all the competitors where practicing well into the night and psyching themselves up. Chuck did his usual, take the dog for a stroll and dream about being number one. This came true the next day.

The Allure Of The Antique Fishing Lure

By Chris Douglas

So what draws people toward wanting to collect antique fishing lures? People are surprised to find that fishing lures actually are even collected. In actuality, they are very popular and are one of the most commonly collected antiques. A lot of detail went into these old lures as they were hand made. Because each one was done individually and not off of an assembly line, they are each unique in their style and look.

They tend to be very colorful and detailed. Usually hand painted and made from wood or metal, and finely chiseled into the shapes that attract the fish for which they are made. Fish have a pretty big food chain so these lures can take on all kind of fancy shapes from the smallest flies up to bigger fish. Most lures today are mass produced and tend to look all alike, yet because of the fine detailing that went into these they are quite unique, which of course increases their value quite a bit.

They are made of wood and metal, and each one is unique since they are hand made. Antique fishing lures sometimes could take days to create because of the design considerations that went into each one. These aren't mass produced like the lures are today, so each lure is going to have the makers personality tied to it. Similar to the way a painting can tell a tale of it's author, by the strokes and choice of colors that were used in making the work of art.

When hunting for these lures you can start by checking out some of the old antique shops in your area. Some fish and tackle shops that are modern day shops may even have sections dedicated to antique fishing lures. While you are there you may end up fishing out other unique items. Check your phone book for dealers and stores that carry hard to find antique items. A really good place to check would be the internet. Try doing a search engine search for hard to find antique fishing lures.

What makes fishing lures of old worth so much money? For one thing it's the fact that each one is like a mini sculpture. Since they are hand made and finely detailed, they are unique pieces of art. Like all things that are unique, their value goes up over time. Holding onto a unique piece of history, you can be assured that it's value will steadily increase and it will be in demand by avid collectors all over the world. You'll want to make sure they are kept in good condition. Sealed and protected from the environment so as not to allow damage by humidity.

When you are looking for lures that are collectables, try checking around at meetings where people get together and trade goods that are hard to come by. A good example may be conventions where antique items are traded. This is also a great place to meet others that are avid collectors of hard to find hand made items. You will learn some great tips and techniques on finding very hard to find collectables from experts and pros in the area.

In conclusion, collecting antique fishing lures is a great way to get your hands on a piece of world history. The fact that you'd be dealing with unique pieces of art that no one else anywhere would have, makes these items of great value and in great demand. A good way to get started would be to check local antique dealers and ask questions. But to really get your feet wet, check online resources as well as magazines that not only deal in antiques but also fish and game.

Corcovado National Park - The Amazon Of Costa Rica

By Victor C. Krumm

Situated off the southern Pacific coast of Costa Rica along the shores of the Osa Peninsula, almost on the Panama border, you will find the Parque Nacional Corcovado (Corcovado National Park). This is a unique protected habitat and is the largest surviving forest on the Pacific Coast from Mexico to South America. There are eight different habitats to be found in the 42,000 hectares (100,000 acres) which form a tiny national park that remains for the most part unspoiled. Though teeny, it is one-of-a-kind. Literally.

When Christopher Columbus explored the Americas in 1502 he traveled the Caribbean from Mexico south to a land he called 'Costa Rica', the 'rich coast'. The name stuck. Fabulous tropical forests covered the land from the Atlantic to the Pacific and there were so many sea turtles that sometimes mariners, lost in the fog, found land by listening to the sounds of tens of thousands of animals paddling towards nesting beaches. Unfortunately, the passage of 500 years has not been kind to either the forests or animals and today most of the primary forests from Mexico to South America have been cut down or burned. Fortunately, Costa Rica had the good sense to preserve Corcovado.

Columbus never saw Corcovado. The first Western explorer to see it was Sir Frances Drake (remember him? The sea captain who destroyed the Spanish Armada in 1588 and saved England from Spain) who landed just north of the Osa Peninsula in a beautiful place now named after him: Drake Bay. The bay serves as the gateway to Corcovado.

Do not be misled by the tiny size of this gem. Though it is less than 160 square miles in size (your daily commute is probably larger) this national park protects has been described by National Geographic as 'the most biologically intense place' on the planet. There are 400 species of birds in an area only about 20 miles long and 8 miles wide. How intense is this? Consider. The continental United States---48 States---has 900 or so different species. The largest remaining population of magnificent Scarlet Macaws in Central America lives there, some 1000. Visitors are regularly able to watch these birds in flight or feeding near the shoreline. The mangrove swamps, montane forest and jolillo palms of Corcovado provide a home for 139 different species of mammal and 116 species of amphibian and reptile. The mammals (including six species of wild cats) represent a 10th of the species of mammals still alive in the Americas and are supported on only 0.000101777% of the landmass.

Rare frogs such as the red-eyed tree frog, poison-arrow frog and the enigmatic glass frog are all found here. And this park is one of only a handful of sites in Costa Rica where you will find squirrel monkeys. At night, fishing bats literally scoop fish from the rivers.

At Corcovado, you will find miles of apparently deserted beaches. I say apparently because these beaches provide nesting grounds for huge leatherback (weighing more than half a ton), Pacific Ridley, green and hawksbill sea turtles. Tapirs are plentiful and provide food for ferocious jaguars and crocodiles. The spoor of these large cats is regularly found in the muddy trails around the Corcovado Lagoon and they are also sighted frequently. Bring your camera and stay alert!

This is rainforest so expect precipitation, lots of it---200 inches or more a year. The trees, incredible in their diversity, are as tall as any found in the Amazon, Malaysia, and Indonesia, and it is easy to see why the park is often referred to as the Amazon of Costa Rica. The best time to visit is in the dry months from January to April as the park is inundated by torrential rains from April to December.

Buy The Right Temperature Sleeping Bag

By Dale Gatehouse

If there is one thing to consider when buying your next sleeping bag, I say its all about temperature. Get the right range! If the forecast says its going to be warm during the day and then cool off overnight, find out how cold cool off really is, then buy the sleeping bag that is good to 20 degrees below that!

A couple of years ago, I was preparing for a 2 day boat trip to the 1000 Islands. After shopping around all Summer, my husband and I found a boat in late October which suited our needs. We decided to drive the boat back home down river rather than trailer it to save some money, but the boat had no heater.

So we knew it was time to buy warmer sleeping bags. I checked a few forecasts to see how cool it might get overnight and found the average to be around 45 degrees. I researched my sleeping bag options on-line, and found a wealth of information. So many sleeping bags to choose from, with so many choices to make!

I ended up choosing a sleeping bag from Mountain Hardwear called Sunrise. Yes, sleeping bags have names! It cost about $200.00 and seemed to suit my needs. Of course, I didn't really think about temperature options then, I was comparing prices and looks. This sleeping bag was a pretty blue one that matched our new boat!

But no, I went with color and completely regretted the decision that night. Arriving at the marina to pick up our boat in the early morning, the temperature was in the mid 60s and we enjoyed a lovely day cruise down river. We ended up on one of our favorite islands near Brockville, Ontario and had a nice meal just as the sun was setting.

Knowing we had an early start the next day, we quickly made up our beds in the cabin and turned in by 10:00 p.m. Sometime after midnight, our golden retriever Kramer started growling so I got up to check on him. Holy crap, it was cold! I brought our dog into the cabin where he settled happily on the couch.

I quickly ushered the dog into the cabin then dove back into my sleeping bag, but I swear my feet didn't warm up all night - it was miserable. I didn't even have the benefit of my husbands warmth, because he was all bound up in his own misery right next to me.

The next morning we heard on our radio that temperatures had dropped to 25 overnight! What a surprise, the weathermen got it wrong. So please take my advice and learn from my mistakes - when deciding on which sleeping bag to buy, get one that works to at least 10 degrees lower than you think you may need. You'll be happy you did!

How to Get a Campfire Going

By Jim Johnson

Campfires have always been both customary and necessary when going out on camping trips. It is interesting to know, though, that the size and kind of fire you build depends on its purpose such as to cook food or for warmth or both. In this article, you will learn how to build a campfire that is really quick and easy.

Make sure that the campground or family tents area allows you to make a campfire before making one. You need to think too that campfires are among the top causes for forest fires. Make sure to first get the right permission from the ranger, or campground director, whichever applies before preceding to make your campfire.

After getting permission, the next thing to do is select where to build your fire. Expert campers always say that the best and safest areas are those located some 10 feet away from the area where you put up your family tents as well as other things that will easily catch fire such as hung clothes, trees, and the like. This is because in the outdoors, anything can happen. One minute, the air is still and the next, the wind is blowing in the direction of your family tents.

When you have chosen the right area for your fire then you will need to go get some wood to burn. Big sticks, pieces of bark, and twigs will be good and you won't have to chop any wood that way. Just make sure all the wood is dry that you pick up.

Once you have gathered the necessary 'fuel' for your fire, spread a tarp over your selected area. This will prevent you from leaving any debris or campfire left overs when you pack up and leave. Once the tarp is spread, some soil over it and spread it evenly. The soil acts to insulate the soil beneath from the campfire's heat, so make sure to spread it thickly.

Then you need to lay the wood in a teepee shape. To do it properly you place dry twigs and leaves in the middle of the teepee, and place the larger wood pieces around the twigs and leaves. This helps catch the small stuff on fire quickly, and this is what catches the larger pieces on fire.

When the larger wood pieces catch on fire, then place pieces similar in size around the outside. You can cover the walls of the teepee in fact, just don't cover the top, because this is what lets the oxygen flow in to help the fire burn. You have to have a steady flow of oxygen to have your campfire burn for a long, steady time.

When building a campfire, always remember that especially with its size, you should always have it under your control. If you want to cook food with it, simply enlarge and strengthen the flames by putting more wood in it. If you just want it to warm you and your family, make the fire small. Always remember to always put out the fire completely before you sleep in your respective family tents.

The Best Way to Start a Campfire

By Jim Johnson

It has long been the custom to have a campfire when tent camping and sometimes it is a necessity. The size you make the fire will depend on whether you are going to use it for warmth or cooking, maybe you are going to do both. This article will show you an easy and fairly quick way to make your campfire.

First you have to find out if you are allowed to have a campfire in your campsite or your area of family tents. It is also true that one of the main causes for forest fires are campfires. So before light your fire up get permission to do so either from the park attendant or the forest ranger.

Now that you have selected the area, you need to collect up some wood. Good size sticks, barks, and twigs are great to collect if you don't want to have to chop the wood. But make sure the wood is dry that you are collecting so the burn easier.

Now that you have the wood to fuel the fire you are going to make, lay a tarp out on top of the area you selected. This prevents that area from having unsightly debris due to the campfire on it when you are through and you leave. Once you have laid the tarp out you need to spread a good layer of soil over it and even it out. This soil insulates the tarp from the heat of the campfire, so be sure to have a thick enough layer.

The next thing you need to do is make a teepee using your gathered wood. To do this correctly, put a good amount of dried leaves and twigs in the center of the teepee and put the bigger pieces of wood around them. The smaller pieces in the middle easily lights up and will consequently light the bigger pieces on its outsides after a few minutes.

When constructing your campfire, be sure to always make it to a size, where you can maintain complete control of it. In the event you are going to be using the fire to cook with, just make the fire a bit bigger and strong by adding more wood to it. For warmth the fire can be a smaller one. The campfire should always be completely put out prior to people going to their family tents for the night.

Get Your Fish To The Taxidermist In Great Shape

By Hubert Jackson

If you're going fishing and plan to take your prize catch to get mounted by a fish taxidermist, you need to do a little work beforehand. Your trophy will look its best if you take a few precautions before, during, and after your trip. By following a few simple guidelines, you can make sure your fish is in the best shape possible when you take it to the taxidermist.

Fish lose their color after they've been dead for a while, so getting your fish to the taxidermist quickly is important. The taxidermist needs to see the natural colors of the fish to get the most accurate reproduction. Your trophy will end up looking better if you take good care of it before you take it in. Here are some tips for making sure your fish is in good shape when you to get it mounted.

One important thing you can do is record the time, date, and location of your catch. If you used a special lure, you might want to record that too. Take some picture of the fish. Your taxidermist can use these to get a better idea of the fish's color in the wild. This information is also useful since you'll want to put it on the fish trophy itself.

Treat the fish gently. You want the fish to look great after it's mounted, so handle it with care after you catch it. Scratches or other marks take time for a taxidermist to repair and may show up in the final mount.

Put the fish in plastic, pack it in ice, and freeze it as soon as possible. This preserves the fish and also helps keep its color. Again, the goal is to get the fish to the taxidermist in good shape. If it's not possible to freeze the fish immediately, put the fish in the bottom of your cooler or somewhere else cold.

Remember: if you treat your catch carefully, your taxidermist will have an easier time creating the most accurate fish mount possible. A little planning will ensure that you have the nicest trophy possible you can be proud of for years to come. Happy Fishing!

Boat Lounge Seats For Luxury Watercraft

By Frank Gehry

The importance of boat lounge seats on a yacht or other vessel cannot be understated. What is Fishing Equipment

By Mike Adams

Fishing equipment is called fishing tackle by specialists and hobbyists and it usually refers to rods, lines, hooks, sinkers, spears, lures, bait, reels, nets, and so on. The fishing gear that is attached at the end of a line is called terminal tackle

The word tackle when it refers to fishing gear comes from 'takel' which first meant the rigging of a ship, that is, the equipment consisting of ropes supporting a ship's masts and sails. Later, the same word was recorded to have a different meaning, that of apparatus for fishing and that meaning has been preserved ever since then.

The most basic fishing gear is made up of of a rod, a line, a hook, a lure, a bait and a weight or sinker. The line is a basic cord specially made for fishing that is both long, strong and yet thin, so that fish do not notice it. There are various questions that an angler asks when buying a fishing line, like its resistance, stretch, strength and so on. The line will be selected depending on what species of fish the angler wants to catch.

The sinker or weight, also called a plummet, is really only a weight that assists in casting the hook and the bait as far as possible from the shoreline or from the boat that the fisherman is using. They are usually made of lead as their purpose is also to sink and to get the bait closer to the fish in the water as fast as possible. However, lead sinkers have been banned in some parts of the world, especially the really small ones, which are often called 'shot'. If ingested by birds or other fish, the lead, which is known for its high toxicity level, will cause the death of the animal.

Another elementary piece of fishing gear is the hook. This device meant for holding the bait on the line and for hooking into the fish's mouth. It is attached to the line and the angler can choose from a very wide range of shapes, sizes and metals.

Last but not least, the fishing equipment is not efficient without bait or lure. A lure is a device tied at the end of the line that looks and moves something like the prey of the fish you are after. Its purpose is to catch the attention of the fish with its colour and movement. Artificial flies and sand eels fall into this category. When the fish bites the lure, it gets hooked.

On the other hand, bait is the item physically attached to the hook. Bait is basically of two types: animal or foodstuff: 'animal' referring to small fish or other water creatures, insects or crawlers and 'foodstuff' referring to human food like grains, such as hemp, bread or whatever else the fisherman believes might attract the type of fish he's going for.

Get Your Fish To The Taxidermist In Great Shape

By Will Benson

Before you go on your next fishing trip, do a little planning for mounting your catch. Your fish trophy will look great if you do a few things before, during, and after your trip. Making sure your fish is in great shape when you take it to the taxidermist is simple if you follow a few of these tips.

After it's been dead for a while, a fish looses its color. Getting the fist to the taxidermy quickly is important because the taxidermist needs to see the color of the fish in the wild to create the closest reproduction possible. Your fish will end up looking better mounted if you take great care of it after you catch it.

One important thing you can do is record the time, date, and location of your catch. If you used a special lure, you might want to record that too. Take some picture of the fish. Your taxidermist can use these to get a better idea of the fish's color in the wild. This information is also useful since you'll want to put it on the fish trophy itself.

Be sure to treat the fish gently. Taking care of the fish will make your trophy turn out better since scratches or blemishes take time to repair and may show up in the final mount.

Your trophy will come out great if you take care with your catch and bring it to the taxidermist in great shape. These tips will help you make your trophy as natural as it did when it came out of the water. Good luck fishing!

How to choose the most appropriate binoculars

By Chris Raymond

Hunting binoculars are needed if you are going to go in for the hunting season. Without the binoculars you will not be able to effectively hunt and the season may be unsuccessful for you.

Learn about the hunting binoculars before you venture out to buying these as there are things that you should know before buying. There are features of hunting binoculars that you should know and these features will help you to select a good pair of binoculars.

The two most important features about the hunting binoculars are the magnification factor of the binoculars and the other one is the objective lens diameter. The magnification is important as it determines how large the image will be as well as it will dictate the field of view that can be there for you.

As far as the objective lens diameter goes, it determines the amount of light that will be available to your eyes. That availability of light will be a major factor when it comes to image clarity as well as for the light transmission factor.

The bigger the objective lens diameter the heavier will be the binoculars and that is why the binoculars which are taken for hunting have an optimum diameter so that it is not very heavy.

There are a multitude of brands available which specifically design for hunting and they also provide for the toughness of the binoculars. You can buy general purpose binoculars too but that will not give the best images while hunting.

The binoculars used for hunting also need to be stronger than say traveling binoculars or the bird watching binoculars as you will be going into the will area with patchy terrain. Use a good neck strap to hang the binoculars around your neck.

Always make sure to check the actual binoculars and test them for ease of handling before buying.

Determine Your Boat's Value or be Undersold!

By John Howard

Establishing the monetary value for a boat is one of the most important and sometimes the most difficult aspects of dealing with pleasure boats, from the perspective of the seller but of course also for other parties such as buyers, brokers, insurers and marine surveyors

For the seller, pricing the boat well will make the difference between walking away with the right amount of funds to but an even bigger and more performing watercraft, or finding himself undersold and unable to retrieve its investment in full.

At first glance buyers may think that the subject is less crucial for them as there is a lot of choice of similar boats with clear prices, but make no mistake - don't become complacent and forget that not getting the best deal may mean losing tens of thousands of dollars.

This is, unfortunately, harder than it seems. Boat prices fluctuate a lot due to a series of sometimes obscure circumstances, such as the place you are in and the season of the year, and these are all things you need to be aware of. Otherwise you may strike what seems a great deal, but in hindsight you may then notice that the transaction left you worse off by thousands or tens of thousands of dollars.

To do the evaluation right, there are two principal routes: One is to employ a professional appraiser, the other one is to do it yourself. Hiring a broker is the easier and quicker solution, but it is not automatically the best option.

In fact, as there is a lot of information available on the subject for those who are willing to spend some time educating themselves, you can do this yourself if you prefer not to be dependent on someone else's opinion.

To become your own appraiser for boat values, you need to look at as many resources as possible - and there are plenty of books and websites on the subject. Your aim should be to come up with realistic minimum and maximum process for the kind of boat you want or are about to sell.

For this, trade magazine classifieds (whether online or offline) are a fantastic place to start. Systematically collecting and comparing ads for similar boat classes over time will give you a very good idea of offer and demand, and therefore of current price levels.

Also good are boating festivals, which are usually organized by boating clubs and yachting marinas. These shows are excellent to pick up more info on boat values, plus people who come to the shows are experts in this industry and know what they are talking about. Don't underestimate the value of a chat with the right person to accurately pinpoint the possible value of a boat - and you may even find a buyer!

New boat exhibitions are good to gauge current fashions. Fashionable items demand a better price, and you can increase the value of your marine transaction by finding out what features and accessories are currently over- or undervalued.
