One of the many fishes you can catch in freshwater is catfish. They have smooth skin because they have no scales. They grow whiskers and use them as their sensors while wandering around the water. Catfish have weak sense of sight, but they have magnificent sense of smell. Also, they are not particular with the food they eat. When freshly cooked, they produce white meat that is sweet to the taste. In order to catch catfish, you need to have bait. But, do you know that you can create your personal catfish bait instead of buying in a pet store?
Many catfish baits are available in fish stores. However, because of chemicals added to commercially made baits, you cannot be sure how safe it is when eaten by catfish. So, I strongly suggest that you prepare your catfish bait. It is not difficult to make as long as you have the ingredients and knowledge on how to do it. Just follow the steps below on how to make homemade catfish bait. So, let us start.
Because catfish make use of their nose than their eyes, you need to produce baits that have strong odor to attract them. The first thing you need to do is gather all the necessary ingredients to make your own catfish bait. Prepare pound of fowl liver, one cup flour, one cup water, one tablespoon salt, 3 cloves of peeled garlic and plastic container with lid.
Now, let us begin mixing all the recipes together. Combine water with flour and salt. Mix them well together. Put the chicken liver into your food processor to blend it. Do the same with peeled garlic. When properly blended, mix them all together. Add more water if your bait is too arid and add more flour if it is too damp. If the consistency is good enough, make ball shapes of bait of about one inch. Place all the balls inside the plastic container and seal it with the lid. Position the container where there is sun and leave it for 2 days. Remember to rinse your hands properly after making your catfish bait.
Other types of catfish bait can be used such as clams, worms, and shrimps. Use fresh water clams rather than processed and frozen ones. Worms can be picked out from your own garden or any place you know where to find earth worms. Shrimps are considered one of the most preferred foods of catfish. Although some people prefer shrimps with shell as baits, I would suggest that you take out the shrimp from its shell for better result. You can cut your shrimp into two pieces or use them as a whole depending on the size of your shrimp. Frozen or freshwater shrimps can be baits, it does not matter.
Keep in mind that the larger your bait, the larger the catfish you will capture. You can make your homemade bait big depending on the size of the catfish you want to grab hold of.
