Features of Lightweight 2 person Tent Goods And Other Tent Varieties

By Dawn Riley

If you are going car camping, therefore the weight of your camping tent need not be a concern. You could take a substantial cabin tent for the family or a tunnel tent for your kids. If you're going trekking alone or perhaps along with a buddy, then weight will certainly become a concern as too much will impede as well as tire you down rapidly. The 2 person tent is really a featherweight tent that boasts a mix of form not to mention functionality for the most experienced backpackers to benefit from.

Compact tents generally can be a shelter compromise. Tarps offer the lightest material but it falls short of weather and insect protection that the 2 person tent offers. A completely enclosed sleeping bag can be another option although it functions only a resting function with hardly any protection from the elements.

The need to make tents more lightweight to be able to offer hikers much more mobility has motivated tent manufacturers to research on different types of materials to make an extremely light tent that may endure the elements and it won't be too much of an encumbrance whenever carrying on one's backpack.

The truth is, there is still no material that might be as light like a feather without inhibiting the other aspects that make an excellent ultra light weight tent. Weight is relative depending on the person that will carry the tent on their back. The finest ultra light 2 person tent goods weigh in less than 5 pounds but are very costly because of the premium quality materials used in order not to compromise the features that make this tent perfect for hikers.

It is important to observe that lightweight tents have different variations when it comes to building. Some are freestanding and also utilize a simple pole system to be able to provide framework while a few variants offer hiking poles or perhaps need staking down to obtain stability.

Additionally they differ in the type of ventilation they provide in addition to water-resistant qualities and layout. Lightweight 2 person tent items are definitely created exclusively for 3 season camping hikes. Winter tents obviously, are a unique type of tent as they require more insulation as well as padding to shield against the cold.

Going Travelling? Then Remember These Tips

By Charissa Casella

Millions of people are travelling around the world right now as we speak. If you're a traveller or are thinking of traveling then here's some tips for you to remember.

Going travelling means we need to take some valuable stuff with us such as a passport and credit cards but losing those is a horrible experience.

One idea is to photocopy these items so you have some records of them just incase you were to lose them.

But a great tip is to not carry all your super valuable items in one location. Spread them out amoung your luggage so if you were to lose a piece of luggage you don't lose everything.

A second tip that most people don't think about is to carry a little first aid kit. Accidents happen and if you're in a foreign country and you cut yourself it's good to get the wound disenfected and sealed quickly.

It's a good idea when travelling to visit countries when the seasons result in good weather. Going to a country in it's winter or rainy season my not be a nice experience.

It's important to pack the right clothing for the country you're travelling to. Going to a really cold country with shorts and sunglasses will mean a really short trip for you!

Another great tip is to create a checklist of all the things you need and plan to do on your trip so you don't forget anything. Travelling can be quite hectic so creating a checklist of all the things to remember is definitely worth doing.

Don't leave valuables on show and always keep valuable things well hidden because no matter what country you go to there are pick pockets that prey on tourists.

But last and not least whatever you do, do not forget to pack nice comfy shoes. Travelling equals lots of walking which means sore feet. So comfortable shoes are a must.

Remember these tips and you'll do fine.

How for packing light

By Curt Ennis

Travelling light is beneficial for many reasons. It decreases the hassle factor of travelling and makes you flexible in that you do not need to find places to leave your luggage, and you can jump onto any kind of public transport at the drop of a hat. Security is another reason to travel light, because leaving large suitcases in luggage departments etc, leaves you open to the risk of having it stolen. There is even money to be saved by the fact that you don't have to tip concierge staff or pay for storage.

But surely the lighter you pack, the more inconvenienced you will be when you find you don't have something you need. The answer to this is just that you would be surprised how little you need when you travel, whether it's business or pleasure. A great place to start to lighten your load is to write a list. Jot down everything you think you will need, and then mull over it, crossing things off that aren't absolutely necessary. You will surprise yourself.

Once you have decided on what you absolutely need, then you can work on finding lighter alternatives to the things you already have. If you really need to take shampoo with you, then make sure it's a small bottle that only contains the amount you need. Or get eh paperback version of the book you are reading.

One way to make your bag feel lighter, though maybe not make it lighter, is to get a decent bag. If you get a small bag that has lots of compartments then you can more easily access a wider variety of things when you need them. It is vital that the straps evenly distribute the weight across your back.

Now I want to say a little about the things you definitely shouldn't be taking with you. First of all, toiletries are nor needed. Most accommodation provides them, and if not, you should just buy them out there. You can save a lot of space by packing only a few pairs of clothes and using laundrettes.

Swimming In Croatia

By Nika Havel

One of the most beautiful islands on the world is Hvar, with annual average of approximately 2700 sunny hours per year.

Island has beautiful and unique beaches. Wherever you decide to swim on the island, you will find crystal clear and unpolluted sea.

Hvar is abundant with beaches so visitors can swim on a different beach every day. Some of them are very popular, but there are also plenty hidden bays and beaches. Some hidden beaches are still waiting to be discovered.

The beaches are mostly rocky and pebbly, surrounded by pine trees and low vegetation. The naturally sandy beaches are mostly situated on the northern side of the island because of the north wind and waves which are stronger than those on the south side of the island.

Hell Islands (Pakleni otoci) are the best part of Hvar Riviera, if not of whole Croatian Riviera. The name comes from the slime, the type of pine pitch which was used in shipbuilding.

Hell Islands has beautiful pebbly and sandy beaches, several swimming areas and tourist excursions. It is interesting that those beaches are mostly for nudists.

The Hell Islands is made of a group of 20 islands and islets. They are natural unique phenomenon that leaves everyone breathless. A chain of woody islands are dipped in the clean and azure blue sea. There are many small hidden beaches, stone terraces which are facing the sun and beautiful deserted bays.

We will highlight the Jerome Beach which is isolated and therefore beautifully preserved. It is located on the unpopulated islet Jerome in the front of Hvar town. The islet was named by the church from the fifteenth century that doesn't exist anymore. Although the beach is not for partying, it is an excellent place to swim with a dear person and to hide from everyday problems. Jerome beach is one of the most popular nudist beaches on the island.

Hell Islands are reachable only by boat. There is a taxi boat in Hvar town. The ride takes only twenty minutes. Driving with taxi boat provides a special charm and feeling.

If you have your own boat, you don't have to think about the best way to get there. Yacht owners simply love Hell islands. Everybody enjoys swimming in the hidden bays.

On the Hell Islands, you can see unimaginable natural beauty, fragrant erotic herb, beautiful sandy beaches with shallow bottom and some of the most beautiful underwater locations for diving.

Day Spas And Anti-Aging

By Owen Jones

Only children like the thought of getting older, most adults want to halt the aging process or even start it going backwards, if they could. However, as we all know, that is impossible, which is why they invented the next best thing, day spas, beauty salons and all the creams, lotions and treatments that they provide to endeavour to stem the results of aging.

And to be fair, some of them can do a pretty good job. In this piece, we will look at the services provided by day spas. A day spa is similar to a beauty salon but with water activities offered too. A day spa is an extended beauty salon and may be situated in a larger place, particularly if there is a swimming pool included.

The main difference between a beauty salon and a day spa is that in a beauty salon, you are given all your treatments and then you leave, whereas in a day spa, you can hang about a bit in between treatments or remain in the pool or sauna longer than the allotted 15-20 minutes, if you want to.

A day spa is more relaxed and people tend to spend more time in them. There may even be a bar or a juice bar or / and a place to get light, health snacks like a salad or a vegetarian sandwich.

One of the most popular treatments at a spa is the massage. There are different sorts of massage, so it might take you a while to find your favourite if you have not undergone a massage before. Some of the types of massage often on offer are: Thai massage, Japanese massage, full body massage, oil massage and a foot massage. Additionally, some spas will put hot towels on your face to clean out pores and hot stones on your spine for deep heat.

You may also fancy a body wrap or a mud pack or even a mud bath! These treatments can actually help make your skin look younger by deep cleaning the pores of pollutants, make up and everyday grime. They make you feel ten years younger for a while, but they tighten up the skin and make you look younger for a while as well.

Perhaps you would rather concentrate on your hands and / or feet? Then you could have a full manicure and / or pedicure. These treatments could involve a local massage, skin and nail treatments followed by an oil treatment. You could also be given a foot spa, which is like a mini-jacuzzi. A foot spa is wonderful if you have been on you feet all week. They may also use heated socks or mittens.

Half an hour in a hot tub, a jacuzzi or even a steam box are other services that might be there at day spas which you are unlikely to find in a beauty salon. When you arrive at the day spa, check out any cheap day packages. You can often save a bit of money on the individual treatments provided.

The Basic Principles Of Fly Fishing Lures

By Chris Scarborough

When speaking of fishing in general, lures are necessary for catching fish, but it isn't that much so when it comes to fly fishing lures. But isn't that strange considering that fly fishing is no different from other kinds of fishing in the sense that you have to lure your fish to catch them? So when we talk about lures in the sport of fly fishing, we are really speaking about flies.

Brass tacks - fish eat bugs. They rely on flies, grasshoppers, and other insects for their food source. When you are fly fishing, you attempt to mimic the look and movement of their food. Therefore, the lure that you are providing them with are called flies.

You can select from several different fly fishing lures, also known as flies, that would work for special situations, different kinds of fish or different types of fishing. You have the option to either buy them at a commercial outlet or make them yourself. We advise having different varieties of lures to match the different fishing situations you may encounter. Take a few moments when getting on the river or stream to observe the types of insects that are around you. Take a small net like they use for goldfish and skim the top of the water. See what you collect inside and then use a lure that looks like the bugs in the net.

You will need to be observant about these insects because whatever you catch with your small net would be the food that the fish in this area normally feed on. This would help you catch more fish by replicating their food and luring them with what they would think is their next meal. Most fish aren't picky when it comes to their food as they would eat anything that appears near them, but if they are used to seeing a lot of flies above water, this increases their chances of getting lured in.

Keep your fly fishing lures as simple as possible. Regular fishing lures are often huge with all sorts of shiny danglers and bright colors. They may be intended to replicate food sources, but remember that fly fishing is about using natural food that is readily available to fish in a body of water. That being said, it's all about simplicity and dainty size.

Luring fish is a task that can be accomplished with different kinds of tools. But when you are fly fishing, lures become one of the most important tools you can have in your arsenal. Using the right lure, or fly, is so important. It can make a big difference between catching a ton of fish or just a few. Choose your lures carefully when fly fishing and reap the benefits!

The Importance Of Fly Fishing Knots

By Erin Song

Fly fishing can be a hit-or-miss scenario, and this is especially true when it comes to making sure your knots are tied properly. Not only is it a matter of choosing the knot that would be appropriate for a certain setting, but tying it properly. Poorly tied knots will mean lost fish and frustration for you, so knowing about the right knots and how to tie them can be a huge part of the fly fishing experience.

The first thing to do would be to lubricate the knot with your saliva or fishing water. This aids the knot's ability to slip and slide to your liking. Another benefit of lubrication would be the fact that it prevents the monofilament from weakening due to overheating. If a knot is tied nice and taut, any friction could cause a lot of heat to build up. Moistening the knot will reduce this heat and allow you to have good, strong knots.

Tighten knots with a steady, continuous pull. In fishing terminology, this is seating the knot. The knot has to be taut enough and safely secured. Simply pull on the line and leader to see if the knot holds up. It's better to test its strength before you cast rather than to have it break once you get a hook.

There are plenty of books available that give step-by-step instructions on how to properly tie specific knots. You can even go on the Internet to get online tutorials on how to tie these knots.

You will need to know how to secure your line to the reel. This is called "Backing to the fly reel" and there is a specific knot as to how to achieve that. The Nail Knot and Albright Knots are the specific knots you have to tie to back to the fly line. When tying the fly line to the leader, you can also use the Nail Knot for this purpose.

The Surgeon's Knot or Barrel Knot can be used if you have to secure the leader to the tippet, another technique that can come in handy. We suggest using a Duncan's Loop or Clinch Knot for securing the tippet to the fly.

It has been said that the weakest part of a fly fisherman's equipment is his knots. Fish, when caught, will fight against every obstacle placed by the fisherman. If one of these link is lacking, the line will break and the fish will be lost. You should learn how to properly tie knots and prioritize this when learning fly fishing, unless you're the type who likes telling "one that got away" stories at the local bar.

No fly fishing knot is identical to the other, and some can be quite challenging to do. Before hitting the water, have enough practice tying knots the right way. Become proficient at it and be sure you can do it in low light in case you have a broken line. You are what you tie when it comes to knots, and no knot is best for any specific setting. But when you are fly fishing, you need to depend on your knots and it's worth taking the time to learn properly.

Livelining Mackerel on Cape Cod for Big Striped Bass

By Captain Ryan Collins

Uncovering quality stripers during spring on Cape Cod is different from locating large stripers in the heat of the summer. Estuaries and the beachfront typically produce more large striped bass in May and June than during the summer months. At the beginning of the season, finding big striped bass in 25 feet of water is usually more common than locating big bass in 60 feet.

By far the most fun way to live-line mackerel is with light tackle. I will pick light tackle spinning setups when we locate fish in areas with little or no current. Simply pitch the mack into the water and allow the bait to do the work. Watching a mackerel get chased on the surface by a thirty pound striper is a sight not soon forgotten.

Often during the spring, stripers will hold tight to the bottom in areas with current. Harbor channels, estuaries and creeks are all spots in which bass will hold. In these instances, fishing macks utilizing a three-way rig makes the most sense.

When drifting with the current, it is very important to use a weight heavy enough to maintain the line nearly vertical. Conventional rods and reels perform this task much better than spinning setups. When a striped bass hits, fight the urge to immediately set the hook. Instead, drop the rod tip, wait for the line to become tight and then set the hook.

Early in the spring, the first schoolie bass start swimming into Buzzards Bay and Nantucket and Vineyard Sound. Right behind these smaller stripers are the large stripers that many of us dream about during the offseason.

One of the most effective and adrenaline pumping methods to catch these cows on Cape Cod will be live-lining mackerel. For the fishermen it is a chance to watch predation in action. Remarkable surface action ensues when bass are focused on macks.

As always there will be big stripers caught by anglers utilizing the spring mackerel run. Unfortunately, the big schools of mackerel will be more challenging to find once late June rolls around.

I hope you are able to enjoy this fishery on Cape Cod, and take part in on some of the finest spring time fishing this gorgeous peninsula has to offer.

North Eastern Thailand

By Owen Jones

I met my wife whilst on vacation in Pattaya, which is around 45 minutes south of the new international airport by taxi and the airport is around halfway to Bangkok. I met her on the first day I arrived on a double date with a friend who was already there. Within a fortnight she took me back to meet her family in what I later found to be north-eastern Thailand.

Isaan is called north-eastern Thailand too, which is actually confusing because where we are is further north but not so far east. Anyway, most people who call Isaan the north east live in Bangkok and Pattaya, the two big hang-outs for foreigners (called farang or falang in Thai), and we are all north-east from there.

A glance at the map and you will see what I mean. If you travel north out of Bangkok, in due course you will come to Phitchit, which is officially the beginning of the north and the northern race as they call themselves.

Then comes Phitsanulok, once a capital of Thailand. A further 40 kilometres north is Sukhotai and Sri Satchenali, Thailand's first capital and the spiritual home of Thailand. The original city is still there, uninhabited and mostly restored.

I live in the next province to the east known as Uttaradit, which borders on Laos to the east and the old mountain kingdom of Nan to the north. About 10% of the population of Nan are of the various Hill Tribes. One of these, the Mlabri, are nomadic hunter gatherers who live in temporary shelters fashioned from branches and leaves. Until very recently, they were living a stone-age existence and their language had never been heard by Westerners before 1978 so far as we know.

This is 250 km north-east from where I live. Sukhotai is about 30 km east. Such a lot of difference within 300 km. This region was part of the old kingdom of Lanna, which means ' a million rice fields' or even 'millions of rice fields'. Phichai or Fort Phichai, 12 km away, used to be the capital of Uttaradit province. Phraya Phichai Dap Hak (Phichai of the two-handed swords) fought here in the late 18th Century. He is Thailand's most respected and well-known warrior.

Anyway, I live in among all this lot. Regrettably, I do not speak Thai well enough for anyone to give details of it to me and nobody that I know speaks English well enough to do it either. Even my wife. I wish I knew more of this intriguing place where very very few foreigners ever venture.

There are five of us here at the moment in a 20 km radius. An English teacher, a Canadian teacher, a retired Dutchman and a retired Englishman and me. Often there is an Irishman and another Canadian, but they have gone home for a spell. I usually do not see a foreigner or hold a detailed conversation for weeks on end. And I love it here.

What To Consider In Picking Out Sailing Boats For Sale For Cruising

By Zen Pettyfer

Keep in mind that if you really want to have one of sailing boats for sale that is just suitable for your lifestyle and needs then it is important that you take the time in scrutinizing each boat that you stumble upon because even though they all look similar in layout, each are different in some way or the other.

If you have some specific destinations wherein you would likely cruise there for most of the time then consider the climatic conditions on the place like for example, the place is typically hot like the Caribbean then make sure the sailing boats for sale you pick would be comfortable to ride with all the right windows and ventilation portals in the perfect spot.

Take into account that a few of your destinations would probably be chilly or you would probably cruise at the wintry time of the year then it is best that you think about precisely how would you be able to keep the boat comfortable for most of the time given that to freeze up in the center of the sea is without a doubt deadly.

If you have some plan of taking some appliances on the boat like TV, refrigerator, entertainment systems and some other electronic stuffs then you have to give some thought on considering how are you going to power it up because batteries has its limits and carrying lots of spare batteries on the boat is impractical and not to mention it is not safe to be thrown to the sea.

As a general rule, you must also be aware of the water situation on the places you would likely visit like if the destination usually have lots of inlets and coves then it is best that you choose a design that is efficient in navigating such place or if ice were common then choose a design that can withstand repeated impact of ice.

As a final point, don't forget to ask why selected sections on sailing boats for sale were designed in whatever way and notice if the cockpit design would really benefit you when you start to sail on the destinations you've always dreamed of.

Natural Mosquito Repellents

By Owen Jones

We all realize that mosquitoes are a nuisance. None of us likes being bitten by them. Most people say 'bitten' although this not accurate. 'Stung' is also not true. What the mosquito is really doing is taking some of your protein in the form of blood though her proboscis, so that her eggs will have something to feed upon while they are developing.

In consequence, your blood is supplying the albumen (the 'white') of the mosquitoes' eggs. It therefore follows that it is only the female mosquito that 'bites'. In the course of sucking your blood, the mosquito squirts some juices into you. It is not fully understood what these liquids contain, but one is an anti-coagulant to keep your blood fluid and another might be a pain-killer so you do not feel the proboscis entering your pore. Some think that there might also be an antiseptic, but it is not accepted by every one.

Some mosquitoes also introduce other parasites into you, which can cause diseases like malaria, dengue, yellow fever and Japanese jungle encephalopathy. Mosquitoes are to blame for killing millions of people every year. Luckily the liquid that they inject comes from another source other than where they store the blood they have already taken, otherwise they could spread AIDS as well.

Having said all that, another oblique cause for concern is in the prevention of mosquito bites. The single most effective way of stopping mosquitoes landing on you is spreading mosquito repellent on your skin, and the most successful mosquito repellents contain DEET. However, it is now considered that the frequent use of DEET can cause neurological problems. Consequently, it worth looking for natural mosquito repellents.

Regrettably, there is no mosquito repellent as reliable as DEET, but some combinations of treatments are nearly as effective. For example, some people say that mosquitoes are attracted to people who have eaten bananas, so you could avoid bananas if you are nearby mosquitoes. Others say that mosquitoes are less likely to go for people who have eaten garlic or Yeastvite or Bovril.

Mosquitoes abhor the smell of lemons, so a local application of lemon juice is very effective although the effect only lasts about thirty or forty minutes. However, there is a plant called the citronella and this deters mosquitoes equally as well. The citronella does not smell of lemons unless it is disturbed, but then it is very aromatic.

Grow them in pots on your window sills, on your deck or on your patio. The wind blowing through them is sufficient to release the smell. You can also collect the dead leaves and put them in your pillow. You could also rub green leaves straight onto your skin.

There are quite a few natural mosquito repellents, but they do not all work for everyone and nobody knows why. One theory is that diet and alcohol affect your attraction to mosquitoes. It is also possible that mosquitoes in different regions like different kinds of people, so it is always worth asking for local advice.

Rafting The Colorado River Through The Grand Canyon Is A Thrilling Ride Through The Millenniums

By Stephen Daniels

Hatch River Expeditions

White water rafting the Colorado River through the Grand Canyon is an adventure that relatively few will ever get to enjoy, though it has to be considered one of the world's most exciting adventures on many levels. Apart from the thrilling rapids (which, it should be noted, are widely thought of as among the best in the world), the camaraderie of the group, 277 miles of scenery, geology, and archeology that one can experience from the raft or during the many day hikes through side canyons are endlessly fascinating. Put all of these things together and you have a vacation that you and your friends and family will never forget.

The best prospects for getting to take one of these epic journeys is to book a trip with a commercial white water rafting outfitter licensed to guide tours of the canyon. For those who wish to raft without guides, the only option is to enter the lottery and hope that your name with be selected.

The geological history is something that one can see in the very observable strata of the canyon walls, which really gives the viewer the sense of the millions of years it took to form the canyon. The visible layers of rock tell nothing less than the story of the earth's history and formation for the last billion years or so. Several different layers of limestone and shale are visible in the upper layers, with sandstone and granite below. The canyon's geological formations are of such relevance that geologists from all over the world visit every year to examine them. The canyon's depth and visible strata make it one of the most recognized locations on the planet to access those billions-of-years-old layers, and the exposed rock has led to many noteworthy scientific discoveries throughout the years. Nevertheless, with all this history visible, scientists and geologists still debate over exactly how the canyon itself was formed.

Human and animal records are also here in abundance. There are places on the canyon's rims where fossilized dinosaur footprints have been observed, documenting that they once roamed this landscape; and there are many other types and tiers of fossils from just about every geologic period to be found as well. Day hikes to amazingly well-preserved ruins from ancient tribes such as the Anasazi are part of most multiple-day Colorado River raft trips, and there are also numerous sites where you are able to see preserved rock art from these primitive peoples.

The Grand Canyon includes an amazing panorama of buttes and spires surrounding the central canyon that the river etched. You can find unknown numbers of side canyons that should probably not be attempted by unskilled hikers or those without guides, as people do get lost in the canyon every year.

For rafters, most day hikes are not too difficult, and relief from the summer heat is easily at hand in the cool waters of the river. Rafters will enjoy other renowned points of interest that few others will even have the ability to see, including famous rapids such as Lava Falls, Granite, and Hermit. Your Colorado River rafting guides are there to see to your well being, while spoiling you along the way. They are skilled and knowledgeable in the ways of the river and the canyon, know the history of the area very well, and love to share both historical fact and stories to amuse you on the trip.

The Many Fun-based Activities In Rio De Janeiro's Ipanema And Copacabana Beaches

By Donna Swisher

When you bring to mind Rio de Janeiro, you almost certainly visualize 3 things: criminal activity, the Christ statue and also the beaches. Rio has forty-five miles of pristine sand beaches with Ipanema and Copacabana coming to the forefront of everyone's awareness. Of the two, Copacabana is known for bringing in primarily vacationers on account of its high rise hotels, substantial inventory of apartments for rent as well as the beach lined eating places. Both beaches have rather long and broad walk ways termed Calcadao where many Cariocas tend to be busy working out within their tight fitting apparel.

The paths are covered with interesting sand castles, fast-food places to eat and roving snack merchants. Bottled drinking water and refreshing coconut water cost about 3 Reals. Following sunbathing or a game of volley ball in the very hot sun, there is nothing similar to drinking out of one of these healthy coconuts loaded naturally with delectable juice.

We can't speak regarding the beaches of Rio de Janeiro without discussing futevolei; That's volleyball without utilizing your hands. It's unbelievable to observe how athletic these men and women are. Apart from that, regular volleyball and needless to say soccer is repeatedly enjoyed on the beaches.

If performing exercises in the warm sun isn't your thing and you simply want to sunbathe, don't fret because most rio hotels have beach recliners and beach umbrellas totally free of charge. If you are staying in one of the many apartments and flats out there, then you can rent your beach gear from a vendor on the beach.

Observing people is in all probability one of the most fun things to do on the beaches of Copacabana and Ipanema. Although the girls don't go topless such as Europeans do, they don't leave much to the imagination with their Brazilian cut thongs or commonly regarded as dental floss. With the countless beautiful and very fit people relaxing and playing on the beach, particularly in Ipanema, you can quickly notice why Rio's beaches are regularly ranked in the top 10 of the sexiest beaches in the world.

Tips For Doing Sailboat Rental In San Diego

By Wendy Salas

Dubbed as one of the two best summer climates in America, San Diego offers people the chance to enjoy the weather through its various shops for sailboat rental San Diego. Indeed, nothing could be much cooler than spending time on the waters. For this reason, finding the right boat is quite crucial.

Finding information has never been easier now that the internet offers access to just about anyone. Websites of companies allowing rentals for sailboats can be found easily and all that clients have to do is compare the offers right the comforts of their own homes. Asking referrals from more familiar sailors would also be a reliable way to getting the right rent.

Planning for the activity should be done ahead of time, a couple of weeks before. Companies where people can rent sailboats have different protocols for doing reservations, some do it online while others require walk in. It is necessary that clients get to know these in order to get the vessel they want.

Some establishments require their customers to pay right at the time they book the vessel. This may be unwise, especially if done online, because clients would be paying for something they have not exactly seen. A Boating License Is An Investment In Water Recreation For The Community

By Adriana Noton

We all have an opinion about government regulating our live and impacting the freedoms we enjoy. Many of us are of two minds, when it generates revenue for the betterment of all we are in favor, when we are the ones to pay, not so much. Responsible citizens realize that in order to help keep our waterways clean and safe, a boating license is actually a bargain.

There are so many things we take for granted when it comes to outdoor recreation, especially when it comes to the conveniences. We expect our parks to be clean and well kept, safe and lighted so we can enjoy them with our families. We expect there to be some form of authority to ensure others enjoying the waterways do so in a manner that does not infringe on our experience. When others are misbehaving, we want someone to be there to reign them in.

Water sports are great fun and we engage in these activities often without realizing the preparation of the area. We expect that if there is any condition that would make our pleasure ride unsafe, someone will have identified it and either correct it or warn us in advance. Likewise, we want someone monitoring for the unusual presence of dangerous sharks or even stinging jelly fish.

Education is another area where the funds generated are well used. Boating safety courses, lifesaving instruction in cardiopulmonary resuscitation and even swimming lessons are offset by these monies. And should the unthinkable happen, everyone would want someone to be able to respond and help in the event of a catastrophe.

Even getting our boat into the water and ready for our adventure requires considerable infrastructure to be in place and in operating order. Someone has to build the facilities, man them and ensure the consumables are brought in for our convenience. All of our parks and recreation areas meet exacting standards and all of that requires revenue to maintain.

Water safety programs are encompassing and require resources to execute. Everything from floatation devices to wildlife education courses are part of the experience we have come to believe will always be available. These programs play a major role in the prevention of injury and death on the water, and reduces costs by minimizing rescue and recovery operations.

When the unthinkable happens, we know someone will come to our rescue and get us back to shore safely. Even the physical structure of the lakes, rivers and shores require attention and care to preserve. The natural effects of wind, rain, snow melts and tides impact and erode the banks of the bodies of water we take for granted. Taking care of them requires complex engineering analysis and construction projects on a regular basis.

There is an economic impact as well, while fishing, crabbing and clamming are part of the recreational use of these areas, preventing the loss of these resources requires vigilance. It is far more complex an issue to determine the limits of recreational extraction than most of us imagine. Each boating license contributes to the preservation of a source of recreation we can all enjoy for now and into the future.

3 Important Tips You Need to Know for Skiing and Snowboarding

By Jason R Vanderbuilt

Many beginners don't fully understand the dangers involved in the sport of skiing and snowboarding. Getting caught up in the excitement of the slopes is very easy to do. Learning about the safety issues related to skiing and snowboarding is critical. You can help ensure a safe day of skiing or snowboarding with the proper skills and training. Use the following tips for skiing and snowboarding to help you stay safe. fiberglass pontoon

Snowboarders often spend time sitting but rarely sit on purpose. This is why you need to invest in and wear waterproof pants. The idea of waterproof pants might seem really dorky but all you need is a few hours without them and you'll change your mind. There are plenty of reasons to want to be as warm and dry as possible. There is a lot more to this than being comfortable or whatever you think is most convenient. In addition to waterproof pants you'll also want to wear a great set of kneepads because you can most definitely bruise you knees pretty badly during the day.

Learn how to read your routes and look for tell-tale signs of past events. Anytime there is a huge avalanche, you hear about it on the news. As you well know, they are devastating and unforgiving. What you may not realize is that a small avalanche can kill you just as quickly as a big one. Reading your routes takes practice and is about experience above anything else. This important skill should not be ignored even though it is not that easy to learn. It can often be difficult to spot the variations in the terrain but it's important that you look for them. When you take the time to study the terrain, you can spot potential hazards and recognize signs of past damage.

Another skill to master to advance your skiing skills is short turns. Pivot slip turn drills are a good way to improve your short turn abilities. To practice this drill, face downhill and rotate both your legs left to right by 180 degrees. That is how you practice the pivot slip turn drill. Groomed snow can make this drill a bit easier. Don't neglect proper pole planting as this helps you maintain a smooth flow and your overall rhythm. A short instruction session with a professional ski instructor can help you learn how to properly execute this drill.

Efficiency of turns is one thing you can do to advance your skiing skills. One method to do that is by breaking the wedge habit during turns. But it's easier said than done for many people. Mastering this skill is difficult but we know you'll enjoy the increased control after you've learned it. You will have to use only one leg to stop the wedge. Just shift your balance to one side. then slowly lighten up and tip your other side. Once you can do this with confidence, then you'll be just a little better with control.

In comparison to many other sports, you can avoid many mishaps if you don't complain. Allow yourself some time to learn the fundamental methods and don't be too speedy when you start out. You have loads of times to advance yourself.

Some Insights Into Florida Shipwrecks

By Janette Livingston

There is a long history of Florida shipwrecks. Some trade vessels became the victims of hurricanes and other forces of nature. Others are historical remnants from Spanish explorers seeking gold and other treasures. The heavy German U-boat attacks during World War II also left underwater wreckage.

Many yachts and tankers have been lost in the waters along the southeastern United States. The Sunshine State has about 1,200 miles of coastline. It has about 5,000 sunken vessels in the waters. With about 4,500 islands, the archipelago of the Keys stretches for about 200 miles. Nearly 1,000 sunken vessels rest along these islands. The predominance of wreckage has led to many islands gaining their names from events off their shores. Fowey Rocks was named in recognition of the British warship, the H. M. S. Fowey, which crashed in 1748. Alligator Reef is the site of the 1822 demise of the schooner, the U. S. S. Alligator.

Officials with the United Nations have estimated there are over three million sunken vessels along the global seabed. These sites can provide valuable insights into historical seafaring campaigns. Maritime archaeologists examine these sites and conduct recovery efforts. Many times, valuable artifacts are recovered, providing important information about historical activities.

The state of preservation is affected by several components. Water depth, salinity, animal presence, acidity, temperature, tides and exposure affect deterioration rates. In addition, materials used during construction, and whether the vessels are buried by sand affect decay rates.

Wooden components that are exposed to the elements decay quickly. After a century, the only wooden structures that remain underwater are those that were buried by sand or silt soon after sinking. An example of this is the Mary Rose, one of King Henry VIII's warships. It sank in 1545 in the straights to the north of Isle of Wight. The wreckage was discovered in 1971, and salvaged in 1982. It has preserved many artifacts from Tudor times.

Saltwater leads to quicker disintegration than fresh water. Iron components are easily rusted by seawater. The wooden elements are quickly attacked by wood-boring sealife, such as shipworms. These creatures can destroy entire vessels.

Wreckage along the seabed is also exposed to destructive tidal forces and wave action. The vessels that sink the deepest are less vulnerable to these forces.

Florida shipwrecks are numerous. They provide insights into the long and rich maritime history of the area. In addition to archaeological value, they providing great opportunities for divers to view a wide array of sealife. Read more about: florida shipwrecks

Vacation At Hilton Head During Shrimping Season

By Carrie Haley

For those who have been waiting for the shrimp season to begin at Hilton Head Island, there is great news in the offing. Although the commercial shrimping season was postponed this year, starting just about a month later than normal, fishermen are confirming some good hauls of brown shrimps from the waters now. As this Island Packet report says, local boats are trawling the waters off of the island for summer brown shrimp really successfully.

Reasons for Delay of Shrimping Season

As reported by the Department of Natural Resources, the lower than normal temperatures during this winter brought about the delay in the opening of shrimping season this year. The first crop of shrimp didn't make an appearance when anticipated and this obligated the DNR to require a delayed start to the season. The postponement allowed the shrimp to repopulate by fall. It is assumed that the white shrimp that are normally harvested during springtime couldn't make it through the abnormally cold weather during the winter.

Good Hauls with Brown Shrimp

The Department of Natural Resources reported that trawlers have been hauling in summer brown shrimp since a week ago. A DNR biologist declared that these shrimp made quite an unexpected appearance in the waters off Hilton Head Island. About 10 other boats that were out on the waters also claimed good catches of these fish. For the local people, the arrival of the brown shrimp brings great relief. Seafood restaurants, particularly, have a lot to celebrate now that they are able to replenish their decreased shrimp stores. However, the activity out on the water still seems to be abnormally subdued. Possibly shrimpers remain discouraged by the fact that they were not able to obtain their customary haul of the larger sized white shrimp. The white shrimp also is the more lucrative variety to market.

Rains Will Bring Relief

Residents are waiting for the rains to begin here because then the shrimp will mature to larger sizes. The rain provides nutrients to the waters here which are essential for the shrimp's growth. The fish will also start to proceed downstream from the small feeder creeks as soon as the rain starts. The brackish water in these feeder creeks just will not offer sufficient nutrients to the fish which explains why they're smaller in size than usual this season, locals say.

Vacation at Hilton Head during Shrimping Season

If you are an avid angler then Hilton Head Island is simply the perfect place for you now that it is shrimping season here. Reserve rooms beforehand to ensure that you get the best possible rooms here to make your vacation fishing expedition a terrific experience. The seven acres of semi tropical paradise that you will get at the Players Club, a bluegreen resort make this a good choice of accommodation. Enjoy tennis, racquetball and swimming at the resort to keep yourself fit for your fishing adventure on your vacation here. Leave your kids in the nursery while you go on a leisurely walk around town. If relaxation is exactly what you need then you can also make the best use of the yoga and pilates class run by the resort. Families with children will also find it an incredible advantage that the Coligny Beach is very close to the resort. Merely walk down to the beach and let your children have the most fun they have had in years.

Inflatable Boat Safety - Staying Safe With Your Inflatable Boat

By Danny Matterson

Inflatable boats are highly stable vessels, thanks to the buoyancy tubes on each side of the boat that results to its lower center of gravity. This simply means that under normal conditions, you are assured that your inflatable will not tip over or worse, capsize.

Moreover, the fact that these buoyancy tubes are separately sealed in several compartments is comforting. This is because even when one air chamber has been damaged or deflated, your vessel will still be able to operate normally because of the air reserve in each tube.

But these stability and security features will all count for nothing if the passengers on board will not follow the rules of boating safety. Not following rules will put your life and the lives of others at risk during your entire journey. It's also important that you are acquainted with the local rules of the city, town or country where you are going to have your boating expedition.

Only trust yourself to operate an inflatable if you truly know how to do so. Unless you are well-versed in the navigation and operation of a boat, you have no business being the operator.

Bring someone on board who does. The boat stop switch lanyard is a safety feature in every inflatable and you should insist that your operator wears it. In case the boat operator fells overboard, the boat can still be prevented from going on its way.

All passengers must be taught proper decorum and behavior while on board the vessel. Make sure that all are wearing their life jackets. All passengers must be seated on the floor or on seats of the boat. Never allow bow riding since this dangerous and illegal. Moreover, sobriety must be the order of the day and alcohol or prohibited drugs must never be brought during the entire trip. Follow the maximum load limits of your inflatable craft.

Before leaving port, check that you have all basic safety equipment with you. This includes a foot pump, repair kit, paddles and maps. Check the regulations in the area where you are going since they might require special equipment that you need to bring as well. Bring your licenses too. More importantly, be certain about your fuel supply. Ensure that you have enough to enable you to reach land.

Areas with swimmers or divers must be avoided if possible. If this is not possible, keep a close watch on them and turn off the motor if you spot one near the boat. Your hands must be kept safe from the propeller at all times. Ensure that everyone's hands and feet are inside the boat, especially when you are docking the vessel, to prevent injuries.

The latest technologies have been used in the design and manufacture of these inflatable vessels to ensure that they remain safe and secure. But technology has its limits. Safety and fun in every boat ride is always dependent on the ability of the people aboard to follow rules and use common sense.

Fooling Big Bass with the Tube and Worm

By Captain Ryan Collins

The tube n' worm is not any secret and for good cause. Tubes are affordable and may easily be made in your own home. Tubes catch sedentary bass as well as stripers which are aggressively feeding on baits which the tube is not going to mimic.

A tube will continue to work if bass are feeding on mackerel. A tube will also produce if striped bass are feeding on sand eels. Obviously a tube will give you results if striped bass are feeding on 24 inch long worms. Which leads to the debate about exactly what a tube n' worm rig actually imitates.

I completely believe stripers mistake tubes for ribbon worms and large sandworms that live in New England waters. These worms can grow to a length of four feet. Large sandworms and milky ribbon worms in many cases are reddish-pink or orange in color. Sandworms and ribbon worms are also likely to move through the water with a gyrating or spiraling action.

A 24 inch long ribbon worm, swimming through the water, possesses a strangely similar likeness to a correctly trolled 24 inch long red tube.

Should you be a striped bass accustomed to chasing speedy pogies and ink filled squid, then catching a worm must be about as simple as it gets. It could possibly be the human equivalent of hitting up the drive-thru over spending the energy necessary to prepare a turkey dinner.

In such a sense, it is my opinion stripers possess a "why not?" attitude towards tube n' worms. I believe that even if bass are honed in on different bait, they may still consume a big worm because it's so easy to capture.

Making the most of Time Spent On the Water

Enough time is spent on the water in search of fish, as we discussed last week in Developing a Strategy for Finding Big Fish.

The very last thing I wish to do is waste time tinkering with different techniques and lure options when I ultimately identify an area holding big striped bass. Uncommon are the days that a tube n' worm fails to catch a fish, when trolled through fish filled areas.

This makes it easy to feel confident, realizing that the tube will more than likely prove interesting to a passing bass, regardless of weather conditions or the presence of a certain bait.

Trolling three different tubes at three different depths through an area containing striped bass will quickly allow me to see what length/color tube and what depth will be most productive. Once a number of fish are caught, I will have a decent sense as to the most productive tube and depth. A quick modification to the other two tubes is all that is needed.

Florida Keys Map A Good Thing To Have In This Complex Region

By Janette Livingston

The Florida Keys is a complex archipelago extending over 120 miles (190 kilometers) into the Gulf of Mexico from the southern tip of the Florida panhandle. The chain is comprised of over 4,500 islands and cays surrounded by the azure waters of the gulf. Visitors to the area are strongly advised to carry a Florida Keys map because the geography is fiendishly complicated.

Many of the islands are fringed by long sections of stunning coral reefs. The area is a veritable marine paradise. It attracts keen anglers, boaters, scuba divers and snorkelers, and water sport enthusiasts. There is a continuous flow of visitors to the region throughout the year, summer and winter.

The Keys are home to about 80,000 people. The best known islands in the group are Key Largo in the north (made famous by the Humphrey Bogart movie of the same name) and Key West in the south (the home of Ernest Hemingway). One-third of the permanent population in the region lives on Key West.

Geologists believe the Lower Keys might be part of the long Appalachian ridgeline that extends along the east coast of the USA. The islands are foundered on a deep base of fossil coral layered with an egg-shaped limestone granules known as oolite. Other hints that support this conclusion is their northward alignment and the natural presence of fresh water sources on Big Pine Key.

A growing number of visitors arrive on private yachts. The surrounding waters are a paradise for boaters. Some sections are shallow and therefore deserve a close scrutiny of tide and navigation charts carefully. Despite that qualification, it is relevant to note that Key West is constantly visited by large, ocean going cruise liners.

Skippers with shallow draft vessels may approach the Keys along the Intracoastal Waterway (ICW). From Miami and Biscayne Bay, the ICW passes through both Card and Barnes Sounds into Florida Bay, a passage limited to vessels with a draft of five feet or less. The ocean route is through Hawk Channel, this being a passage marked by buoys and runs between the islands and the outer-most reefs.

A Florida Keys map is useful to making the most of a visit to the archipelago. The region is studded with many marine reserves, vessel wreck sites, nature parks and popular diving spots and proverbial secret fishing spots. There is even a National Key Deer Refuge on the south side of Spanish Harbor. A map will help visitors find their personal favorites. Read more about: florida keys map

Locating the Right Spot to Troll a Tube and Worm

By Captain Ryan Collins

Well before putting a tube within the water, the most crucial choice an angler can make is selecting just where to fish.

There are several places around Cape Cod that are ideal for trolling tubes. The rips off Chatham, the boulders down along the Elizabeth Islands, and the expansive waters of Cape Cod Bay quickly spring to mind.

It's hard to beat a properly trolled tube and worm during the midst of a hot Cape Cod summer. Even so, one slip-up that countless anglers make is spending too much time trolling an area that does not hold any life. Trolling tubes has a natural tendency to put anglers to sleep-literally. It is extremely easy to place the rods in the holders, and troll along for an entire afternoon, looking to run into a nice school of bass.

Kicking back and relaxing is great, but it is definitely not the most effective approach to fish the tube and worm. A far more proactive approach is typically necessary to uncover a prime area with a lot of life. Spending more time searching around, and less time with lines in the water, will regularly result in a lot more bass hitting the decks.

If this seems odd to you, give Developing a Strategy for Finding Big Fish a read, to get a greater understanding of what I mean.

Deciding Upon an Effective Tube and Depth to Fish

Once an area holding striped bass is found, you can then work on discovering the most effective depth, tube size, and tube color to troll. The proper way to do this is via a process of elimination.

I'll typically troll three tubes when tube and worm fishing. The first tube is trolled down the center of the Miss Loretta, as the other tubes are trolled off of the port and starboard sides. All three tubes are trolled by way of leadcore fishing line.

If bass are seen through the entire water column, then my normal move would be to position the port and starboard tubes at a specific depth (say five colors) and maintain the line running down the center at a separate depth (say three colors).

Tube color and length will depend on the situation. The important principle to know is that it is vital to change your tube spread based on the reaction you're getting from the fish.

For example, if stripers consistently bite the 24 inch red tube from the center line (that is set at three colors) then it could be worthwhile to alter the 30 inch orange tube that was running on the starboard line to a 24 inch red tube. Switching the starboard line to a depth of three colors as a substitute for five colors may not be a bad idea either.
