Travel Tips For A Vacation In The Canary Islands

A vacation in the Canary Islands is something that is usually seen in glossy tourist brochures, but not very often in reality. Sub-tropical weather offers sunny weather throughout the year here, along with warm and spectacular beaches and the sparkling Atlantic Ocean. This, however, is just one part of what's on offer for visitors, and there is so much to do and see.
On paper, this archipelago is a part of Spain and the EU, although in reality it is closer to the African continent, just off Morocco. Europeans seem to find this a very good place for holidays, and visitors numbering the tens of millions come here every year. Among all the destinations here, the ones that are most popular include Lanzarote, Gran Canaria and Tenerife.
Visitors usually get their first look of the archipelago when they land at the airports on either Gran Canaria or Tenerife. Ferries are commonly used for island hopping, although they do have local plane service too. Most every town and city on each island is very well connected and modern, at least in comparison to the nearby African destinations.
As far as Tenerife is concerned, visitors can enjoy all kinds of beaches. The volcanic island offers everything from black sand beaches to the normal golden sand ones. There are many resorts where tourists can enjoy the beaches and other attractions on the island. Boat trips for whale watching and big game fishing are quite popular, and so are the many European style outdoor street cafes and seafood restaurants.
Gran Canaria too has its share of beach resorts, especially on the island's southern coast. It is also famed for the surfing, with awesome waves in the north and good spots for learning in the south, where tourists can also get some surfing lessons. Gran Canaria also has a whole bunch of golf courses, including the oldest golf club in Spain.
The island of Lanzarote is a breed apart and attracts a large number of UK visitors looking to enjoy a vacation in the Canary Islands. In fact, they even set their clocks here according to London time. The main attractions on Lanzarote are the museums, beaches and Timanfaya National Park which is a testament to the island's fiery volcanic past.
