Blog Posts that are Effective in Telling Your Travel Story

By Patrick James

Okay, you just had the enjoyed holidays to Turkey, and you now arrived home. You have gripping stories and dozens of photos regarding your Istanbul city tour, your delightful experience in a Turkish bistro, your amazing ascent to Mt. Ararat's summit, and your shopping experience in the coastal town of Kusadasi. Now, you want to promote your stories to everyone through your blog.

But how? Take into account that there are many other travel blogs in the Internet. To make your adventures known, you have to make your online presence stand out. And here are wonderful guidelines on how to make your travel blog as a favorite reference site for travellers worldwide.

1. Begin by making your blog physically readable for readers. Make certain that the text is easy to read, and it doesn't blend into the background. For instance, make use of simple Arial or Times Roman font instead of Script or Forte fonts. Don't use text that blends with the color of the backdrop. And do not use a cluttered background, which only functions as a distraction.

2. Do not use too much extras in design. Yes, you wish to tailor your blog by putting in many additional features. But putting too much widgets, interactive programs, and monitoring applications can definitely let your readers' attention wander away. Remember that people don't visit your blog to be impressed with your site designing skills. They are there to look into the sights you visited, the wonders you witnessed, the activities you enjoyed, and the experience you had while you were visiting the place.

3. Upload plenty of photos. Keep in mind that photos speak louder than words, and your vacation photos will tell 70 percent of the story. With photos, you can vividly illustrate how the Eifel Tower appears like, how brilliant a Canadian sunset is, or how amazing the scene below Mt. Ararat is. With photographs, you can illustrate your city tour, scuba diving, clubbing, dining out, and shopping experiences better than just putting text.

4. Provide interesting details. For example, you want to share your experience eating in a fascinating Turkish restaurant. Don't just settle about the "I came in, I ordered meals, food was yummy, I paid for the bill" approach. Discuss the looks of the waiter. What about the dancer who performed in front of your table? Or the extreme heat of that scorching peppered dish? How about the red tapestries which adorned the place? Explain your experience as felt by all your senses; this will make the readers feel as if they're next to you.! Let's say you climbed Mt. Ararat during your family holidays to Turkey 2013. Don't just describe your adventure in a "we climbed, we reached the summit, we went down" post. Place details on it. Explain how magnificent the place is. Explain how you navigated over the rocky, slippery soil while going up. Tell your readers about the cold dinner you had on your first night on the mountain. What about that heart-stopping moment when a pal almost slipped down into a crevice? Use your five senses to make readers feel as if they were there.

5. Provide handy details. In my travel blog, I ensure that people can get something than just a tale. Thus, after a rock climbing trip at Joshua Tree, I might include information such as a weekend itinerary. I might add a typical schedule, an approximation of a weekend budget, and a listing of contact people. Make your travel blog a resource, not only a diary.
