Choices For Renting A BVI Catamaran Charter

By Carl Cooper

If you love the ocean and want to have a lovely vacation on the water, then the British Virgin Islands is just the spot for you. No matter if you are a family or on your honeymoon, the waters of this area are begging to be explored. A BVI Catamaran Charter is one of the absolute best ways to explore all that these waters have to offer.

A catamaran is quite different from a normal sailboat or yacht. Some are equipped with sails only, while others are equipped with both an engine and sails. They are constructed using two hulls, with something connecting them in the middle. On smaller ones, the connector might be a simple, strong webbing, while on others it is a large metal structure that may be big enough to haul cargo.

Most of the catamarans in the BVI are of the smaller or medium variety, and not the supersized ones that can haul cargo. They are that way because smaller vessels are best for exploring the more than 60 islands and cays that comprise the British Virgin Islands. A huge ship or yacht would simply not be able to get into some of the areas between the islands, as they may be too wide or deep to fit. A catamaran would not have these issues most of the time.

Each one is relatively low to the water, so you could reach out from the side of the boat and touch the water. That also makes it easier to go swimming, as most have a ladder or cockpit extension that will help you get in and out of the water easily. The lower profile means that you get a clear look at the water, and can see all the creatures in it, which makes the entire trip much more scenic as well.

You can rent out the boat for just a day or weekend, or even for a few hours on a sunset cruise. However, most people rent for an entire week, using the catamaran as their hotel and resort in one. You may even be able to get a discount on the total cost for renting for a week or more. Ask about special off season discounts as well, which can really save you money on this dream vacation opportunity.

If you would like to vacation in the lap of luxury, then you can rent a boat with a crew. This means a hostess and captain who will take care of you and your guests.

If you do not require a crew, you can opt for what is called a bareboat sailing, where you are on your own to do all the food prep, serving and cleaning. It is really up to you which one suits your needs the best.

The smallest boats may only have a kitchen and common area with table and seating. Others have cabins below deck with beds that can sleep either one or two people each. There is also a bathroom on board, and with the larger models, there may even be more than one bathroom with a shower, sink and toilet.
