Living On A Boat As A Lifestyle
Friday, September 30, 2011
Nowadays, a primary residence boat is famously called as "liveaboards". Some boats are built while others are bought yet the any boat owners know it is cheaper than a fully mortgaged house and lot in suburbs. Another aspect to forget is the electricity and water bills.
Freedom is the general perk of choosing to live in a boat, as a resident considers his or her house a primary transportation. But compared to a house, boats are high-maintenance and a resident must be an expert repairman with intermediate mechanical engineering skills. Another thing to consider is the possibility that one's house can suffer two additional tragedies on top of fire- capsizing and scuttling.
Some people choose a career that is also a part of their unique lifestyle. Often when they own a sizable lounge and extra set of berths, scuba divers and marine tourists are welcomed by these boat residents aboard for an off-shore adventure. It is sometimes better to be a paid recreationist than leaving one's boat moored at the marina while off to work elsewhere.
However, it is often not by choice but by necessity why some liveaboard residents opted for a less luxurious and less competitive marine career. Sometimes they either have a dire lack of radio and navigation gadgets or they have a very limited space. A lot of boat residents fitting in these descriptions find themselves living well on the bayou, doing little risks hunting alligators during their season.
For a person living on a boat, changing the environment while having the interiors intact is just as easy as changing TV channels. Land residents find it extremely cumbersome to move from one town or apartment room to another simply because they were fed up with the same old boring view. But while on a liveaboard, it is only a matter of weather forecast moving from Canadian to Mediterranean coast.
As mentioned earlier, your utilities are not plugged into the "government pipeline". Therefore your electricity would come from generators and your supply of fresh water from buckets and drums in the storeroom. Such crude hands-on living is not always seen in the negative light, especially for diverse people who fancy the rugged adventurous lifestyle of naval people in the Age of Exploration to keep them from getting bored.
Nobody can live in a boat for more than a week without considering himself or herself a part of the waters he or she is cruising. Though having to swim for life is a last resort prerequisite for some who simply loves their vessels too much, for most people it's actually an integral part of living on a boat. The majority of liveaboard tenants always prefer taking their uniqueness to a whole new level.

How to Get Free Boat Plans Online
I honestly have lost count of the numbers of half-completed drawings and sketches that I had downloaded. It is such a waste of time since not even one of them turned out to be any good at all. Although there were a couple of plans that were quite proper. However, they were not precisely what I was searching for. You see, the first one was far too huge for two kids that are aged ten, while the other one, seemed like it had a really small freeboard, and I was pretty much convinced, that as soon as there was a first sign of wave, it would fill up with water.
A Single Solution
The one solution that I had come up with was to design the boat by myself. A guy from my sailing club informed me about a software that designs boat in the 3D format that had recently come out of the market. I did not really think I had any skills, or the experience to be able to design a boat hull straight from scratch, but to tell you the truth, it actually turned out well. The software was very easy to use, literally uncomplicated, I instantly picked up the basics in just an hour. Then, after a couple of hours , I was working on the hydrostatics, as well as the resistance calculations, which are all done by the software itself. As I make my modifications of my design, I really felt that I was indeed in control of what I am doing.
Easy to Use
Since then the software has since been updated quite a few times, and each time it gets easier. I just simply continued with designing the kid?s dinghy. In all it took about five months to complete my work.
Although it was not that fancy, the kids still loved it and the dinghy performs very well. In fact, there are two club members that had asked me to design some boats for them. I did not want to charge them at all, but they insisted that they would like to give me something for all of my efforts. What the two club members have paid me is more than enough to cover the original cost of the software that I had used.
So, there you have it, if you want to have your own free boat plans, just simply get some each to use software for designing your own boats and you will have all the plans you want.

Home Plywood Boat Building - Stitch and Glue or Ply on Frame?
First you will have to decide which one of the two most modern techniques are you going to use. There is the most up to date technique of the stitch and glue, or there is the old fashioned ply on frame.
They both have good and bad points about them . When done properly they both produce excellent results. So how do you make the choice? This will be determined on how experienced and skilled you are. Along with how much time and patience you have, and finally what appeals to you more. Here are a few hints that might help you with your decision making.
The Plywood on Frame Method: This utilizes ribs, which are wooden frames. Most often they are straight but in some of the older versions, they tried to implement the curves which led to many complications. You will use a construction jig and actually the hull of the boat is built upside down. Then this is how it goes from there.
The ribs have notched slots where you attach the longitudinal frames. The keelson runs down center ribs. The vertical timber is attached called the stem. The sheer clamps are the frame running along the upper edges of the hull. Two more pieces are added to make the transition from the hull bottom to the hull side. This creates a joint called the chine, and the frame member is the chine log. The joints may be glued, screwed or bolted. Utilizing adhesives such as epoxy helps make excellent bonded joints.
Finally... Cutting the planking a little bigger, it's glued, screwed or nail into place. Trim the edges and apply a couple of layers of fiberglass. Or saturate in epoxy if you prefer.
Stitch and Glue Boats: The hull is made from exact cut panels. There may be bulk heads but no framing. Use panel drawings or finished shapes these are laid out on the plywood planking then cut out.
It's important that exact shape and symmetry are adhered to. Then you proceed to drill small hole in adjacent panel close to the edge and thread the holes with copper wire or nylon tie-wraps. This is the stitching. Putty the joints with silica then tape joint with fiberglass tape. Flip the hull and make similar joints on the outer hull. Fiberglass the hull if you want.
Both methods produce great results. Now that you know how it is done which way do you want to do it? Do you like working with wood? If the answer is yes then it's the ply and frame method for you.
The stitch and glue is messier. You need to work with lots of epoxy so if you don't mind that then maybe this is the best for you. There is a lot of clean up involved with this method, and you must be sure to wear a respirator for both methods for safety purposes.

Carp Fishing Tackle: Purchasing the Most Successful Gear for Carp Fishing
Sunday, September 25, 2011
In order to be prepared and successful with your carp fishing escapade, you must purchase your gear from a company which offers an extensive line of superior tackle deliberated especially for this type of fishing. With the assistance of the Internet and meticulousness in carp fishing tackle comparison, you should be able to find the premium fishing equipment it takes for a lot of enjoyable and profitable years as a carp angler. Here is some insight into the various pieces of fishing gear needed for carp fishing.
Carp Fishing Tackle: How Do You Pick the Right Rod?
The kind of carp fishing rod you will need will depend upon the spots where you will be fishing. Case in point, a light rod of about 1.5 to 2 pound test curve would be perfect for fishing in small estate lakes, where the carp would be likely 15 pounds or less. On the other hand, in larger settings, in which you will be casting for a distance, you may need a 3 pound test curve. In addition, you have to take into account, the carp rod’s action as they are available in three different types-all through action (best for short range and close in fishing), fast taper tip action (for extremely long distance casting in which heavy weights must be cast a long distance), as well as medium tip action (for a fairly lengthy, but not extreme distance).
Carp Fishing Tackle: What About Picking Out a Reel?
Naturally, your rod and reel should be in synchronization. It all depends on the casting distance and also the line diameter and strength. The reel must be equipped to hold the necessary amount of line. When making your carp fishing tackle selections, you should fit your reel to the rod you are using. A baitrunner reel is a great choice.
If you plan to incorporate 2 fishing rods and could be waiting some time for a run, you will not be able to keep your eye on the gear continuously. This means you need a reel wherein a carp can pull line freely before you can strike; otherwise a large carp could possible drag your entire rod and reel into the water. You may think you can open the bail arm-but not on a blustery day. You need the baitrunner so that the line can be pulled out from the spool very lightly, without a great deal of tension when the bail arm is still in a closed position.
Carp Fishing Tackle: Regarding the Line
Line for carp fishing is chosen according to the kind of fishing and the reel. If you multiply your carp rod’s test curve by 5, you will get a good idea of what line weight is needed.
Carp angling with the appropriate carp fishing tackle is an exciting way to spend your leisure time.

A few reasons to pack light on your next business trip.
Perhaps one of the biggest incentives business professionals have to travel light is the ability to cut costs during their trip. Limiting the number of bags you bring with you will allow you to avoid pricey baggage fees. Having less luggage will also enable you to utilize public transportation or even walk to your hotel more easily. Limiting the weight you have to carry will make you more likely to opt for the public transit route instead of taking a pricey taxi or limo to and from the airport.
If you have fewer bags while you travel it will also allow you to keep better track of your stuff and reduce the chances that you will be the victim of theft. Your goal when packing should be to only bring the amount of luggage with you that you can transport alone. This will enable you to keep your bags and other belongings within your site and in your control at all times. Also, if you are traveling by air and manage to only travel with the appropriate carry on items, you will avoid the possibility that your luggage could be lost or things taken while they are out of your site.
It is much easier to deal with airport delays, flight transfers and possible full flights if you have all the luggage you are traveling with on your person at all times. By not needing to check a bag you will have the flexibility to more easily forfeit your seat on the plane and take advantage of the travel offers the airline provides if you have the time to wait for the next flight. In addition to flexibility before the flight you will also be the envy of all of the people gathered around the luggage carousel as you waltz past them and head off to your hotel as soon as you step off the plane.
Finally, many travelers are always looking for a way to be more "green" as they travel for business or pleasure. Packing light, whether you are traveling by car or by plane, reduces the amount of fuel your travel requires. Over time traveling with less stuff could compel you to buy fewer suit cases and other manufactured goods and that will reduce the amount of waste produced.

The Best Outlet Malls in Destin
Saturday, September 24, 2011
To the discerning shopper paying full retail is tantamount to having a credit card denied. Therefore, the ones who really know what they are doing know outlet malls are the only way to find brand name items of good quality for reasonable prices. Second hand stores are great, but there is nothing like finding those designer jeans or a commercial grade gas stove at wholesale prices. The problem is outlet malls, the really good ones, are far and few between. In northern Florida there are just two good, solid outlet malls. Let's take a look.
The Silver Sands Factory Stores mall is located on the Emerald Coast Parkway in Destin, Florida. It offers shoppers a whopping 96 stores! With that many outlets in one building it would be impossible to list them all here and do justice to each one, so we will give a quick overview. Clothing stores are diverse in the Silver Sands. There are the high end stores like Nike, Calvin Klein, Saks and Tommy Hilfiger. However shoppers will also find Maidenform, Jockey and Baby Gap. There is the lovely Coach Factory Store that every girl will want to visit, but also Sony, Bose, Waterford Wedgewood and Samsonite. Don't forget to check out the jewellery outlets too. Remember, these are just a fraction of what Silver Sands has to offer.
The St. Augustine Premium Outlets mall is located on State Road #16 in St. Augustine, Florida. There are 85 stores at St. Augustine, which is definitely nothing to sneeze at. Silver Sands has some of the same outlets as St. Augustine, but there are some here which will definitely draw the shrewd shopper. In the area of clothing there is Adidas, DKNY, Polo Ralph Lauren and Van Heusen. Yankee Candle has their outlet stores here, unlike Silver Sands, as well as GNC, Movado and Vans. There is a third outlet mall in Jacksonville, but it has just eleven stores and is really not worth the drive unless you are looking for some Easy Spirit shoes.
Whether you are a shopping hater or a shopping lover, no one can deny the satisfaction that comes with getting a good product for a great price. If you find a first-rate outlet mall, treasure it!

Choosing Crankbaits
All it takes is a quick online search for "crankbaits" and you will be inundated with options for dive depths, colors, sizes, shapes, and finishes...and you still will probably be scratching your head.
What makes the difference between a bait that puts bass in the boat, and one that is little more than a pretty, plastic waste of your cash? Or, are all crankbaits created equal, and it's just a matter of luck? In order to answer this question properly, we need to move our attention away from the bait, and take a look out the window.
Bass behave a certain way depending on the season. Changes in weather patterns, as well as other seasonal concerns such as food availability and spawning, all play a role. Match the right bait to the right season and you will look like a fishing genius. Here are a few things to keep in mind on a per season basis
Generally speaking, in early spring prior to the spawn, and in early fall, you will be best served with a shallow diving crankbait. The fish will be in shallow water feeding heavily and very aggressive. Don't be afraid to speed up your retrieve either!
When early summer, and mid-fall hit, it is usually best to switch to a mid-running crankbait. This is a transitional time for the fish, and you will have an opportunity to catch them holding off shore, but not quite in the deepest parts of the lake just yet.
When the dog days of summer hit, or the cold days of winter, it's time to get you bait deep! Find the deepest diving crank you can. You may even need to employ a few suspend dots to keep them in the strike zone for longer periods of time.
This list is not all inclusive, but it does give you a good starting point so you can start experimenting for yourself. Using these general guidelines, you can start to find which baits will be most productive for you in your favorite lake.

What To Look For When Buying A Used Toyota
It is always advisable to avoid making a rush decision when searching for a car. A reasonable duration should be set aside to help make a solid judgment. Without enough time, desperation can set in which can result in settling for a less desirable car. This sets the stage for possible disappointments with the chosen car.
One should ask for the car's maintenance records to get a clearer picture of its life. Check the intervals between servicing to see if it was done on time. The vehicle's condition should reflect the service records and if not, that should act as a warning.
Test driving a car is necessary to help determine the actual condition. It makes it possible to find out if there are any structural problems that are not so apparent. A good car should handle well without vibrations or rough handling. Any unusual sounds during the ride or when stopping might be indicators for trouble.
One should also check the vehicle's history report to get a clearer picture of its past. Major accidents can affect the car in many ways and this can easily be known by checking the reports. If the desired vehicle was in a flood or other major occurrence, it is important to know before buying. Compare odometer readings during previous changes of ownership to determine correctness.
Acquiring a reliable, used car can be tricky if one is not equipped with the necessary information. Many dealers do not care much about the buyer and so it is important to be vigilant before buying. Although a physical check can reveal a lot about a car, it is also important to peruse the available records to gain a better understanding.

Many Consider Auto Hobbies When Looking For A Past Time
Wednesday, September 21, 2011
Working on cars seems to be one of the favorite hobbies of many people. They enjoy the idea of taking something that has seen its better days and giving it new life with a little tender loving care. Taking an old car that is rusted, dented, and lost its luster and bringing it back to pristine condition can take a lot of time, but the results can be phenomenal.
There are a number of ways that a vehicle can be restored. Replacing accessories, such as mirrors, bumpers, or wheels with the original items from the era can do this. It can also involve banging out a few dents and applying a fresh coat of paint. It can also be a project to customize and soup up a classic.
Taking the time to detail the car's interior can also be something that many hobbyists enjoy. Typically, this means that all of the seats are unbolted and removed from the vehicle. The vehicle's carpeting is then thoroughly vacuumed and shampooed to ensure it is clean.
Once the car has been completely cleaned, there will be no sign of any grit or grime. There will have been no part of the interior that has not been thoroughly scrubbed, including the vents for the air conditioning. After applying cleaners to the dash and steaming the upholstery, the car will look practically new.
Many times, families will work on these auto hobbies together to create a bonding between them. They can do most of the work right out of the family garage and spend weekends and evenings getting it done. Once it has been finished, many will find that they can make a sizable profit should they decide to sell.

The Importance Of A Freshly Stocked First Aid Kit
It is often the quick thinking of an individual on the scene that can make all the difference to the outcome of an emergency. Even if formal training has not occurred, just knowing how to adequately make use of available items is a great asset.
The home, car and workplace at least should all have one easily accessible kit, containing a variety of important items which are fresh and ready for use. There are many sizes and types of boxes, containers and soft package sets available in a variety of outlets both online and in stores. The contents may vary according to the specific area of interest. A travel size pack will be smaller than a professional size for use on work sites.
Some items are basic and generically necessary to most situations. A basic kit should contain at least the following basic items: a triangular bandage, crepe bandages of varying widths, dressings, adhesive tape, disposable gloves, and a face mask. If there is space, items such as tweezers, scissors, disposable wipes, plastic bags and a first aid booklet should be included. Additionally, information may prove valuable to paramedics or emergency doctors who may treat the patient. Therefore, it is useful to include a pen or pencil, and notebook in the kit.
For general or multipurpose kits, it is best not to include medicines, in case of allergic reaction. Conversely, a family or personal kit should contain any special medication that may be required, such as an asthma inhaler, any injections that may be required for people with allergies or diabetes, and instructions for their use.
The container should be arranged in a neat and tidy manner, and be checked regularly. All items need to be checked, not just medicines that may have passed their date. Adhesive tape and dressings can deteriorate, and may need to be rotated or replaced. All items should be clearly labelled, so that things are easily found in an emergency, or so that young children are able to fetch the correct item.
It is imperative that the first aid kit is in an easily accessible location; in the workplace or home, a sign should indicate where the kit is located. A small car kit can easily be placed in the glove box or behind the drivers seat.
There may be a specific aid station or area in the workplace, and this will generally be stocked with more items, or larger quantities, than those listed earlier. All employees should know which items are at their disposal, and they are to be used. It provides confidence to know that the kit is well-stocked, checked regularly and full of useful items. This means any medical emergency, large or small, can be dealt with until help arrives.

Top Rated Inflatable Pontoon Boat Accessories
Compared to a rigid-hull fishing boat, an inflatable pontoon is easily maneuverable and very stable. Navigating narrow or wide channels isn't a problem with inflatable pontoons and you have an option to go slow or fast with the installation of a motor mount. Where a traditional hard shell fishing boat would tip over if you're not careful enough to balance the weight on both sides, an inflatable pontoon remains surprisingly stable. This can be attributed to the wide spaces and low center of gravity inherent in the design of an inflatable fishing boat.
It is no wonder that this boat is every fisherman or fishing enthusiast's dream. And because they cost only a fraction of the price of a traditional hard shell, it is now easy to own one. Maintenance and repair is also very affordable as well. And because they can be disassembled, assembled, inflated and deflated in less than 10 minutes, transportation and storage is quick and convenient.
But purchase does not end with the inflatable vessel itself. You will also need to invest in accessories to make your fishing trip safer and more enjoyable. Since a lot of these will not be included in your pontoon inflatable, you will need to invest in them separately.
A basic checklist of the most important accessories for your pontoon inflatable includes an air pump, personal flotation device, flashlight and first aid kit. These essential accessories are necessary especially if you're fishing alone so check and double check that you have them on board before setting out. You will also have to invest in oar straps if your pontoon doesn't have them so your oars won't get lost while you're on water.
Another essential accessory that you must never fail to bring along is your repair kit. While most inflatable pontoon boats in the market are made of strong materials that are almost puncture-resistant while in the water, it's prudent to always be prepared when you're traversing an environment that's foreign to you.
All avid boaters will agree that one of the pleasures of fishing is being able to spend some time on land and grill or fry your catch amidst the tranquility and beauty of nature. If you want to secure your boat on water without having to disassemble it while you're enjoying the outdoors, anchor brackets are a worthy investment. Be sure to get one in case your boat does not come equipped with it.
A fishing expedition is always an occasion to look forward to. But proper planning is a necessary element for a safe and enjoyable ride. Make sure that you have all the essential accessories before you go on your trip.

Some need light weight lures or tiny tiddlers which suggest you will need a fishing rod and reel that is also light-weight making it particularly good for fishing for types of fish that can easily be put in a pan to cook.
But if you are fishing for a heavier fish like pike or bass then you will need a different kind of rod. Fishing rods and reels have changed incredibly throughout the years making them better, and allowing the fisherman or angler to be in a position to catch the fish of their dreams.
The Walleye fisherman, Bass fisherman, and Muskie anglers all have their favorite kinds of fishing gear. Packing Tips for Your Next Trip
Friday, September 16, 2011
There are many benefits to taking a carry-on vs. checking your bag. For one, no one is rummaging through your neatly packed things. You don't have to stand in the line to check your bags - and you don't have pay a per bag fee, which is required by most all airlines now. There's a movie called the "Accidental Tourist" where the star, played by William Hurt, writes travel books about his travels. He knows exactly how to pack, what to take and what not to take. I've always aspired to be like him; I'm still learning!
Frequent travelers usually get skilled at packing and some of the best are flight attendants. After all, they are trained to pack! They know what to take and how to put it all together in their suitcase so it won't wrinkle. They take the right clothes for the right occasion.
You'll want to travel with garments that travel well, ones that won't wrinkle and ones that will be easy to coordinate with other pieces. Black pants, for example, can be matched with any color top or sweater. Shop at stores that specialize in lightweight, easy clothing such as REI or TravelSmith. Think about where you're going and the activities you'll engage in once you're there. Then, pack for those specific events. Lay your things on the bed before packing and if something isn't going to be worn, leave it at home.
Take along some healthy snacks when you pack. One of the best tips I got from an airline pilot is some good French bread and a tightly-sealed container of olive oil for dipping. Tuck things (like your container of olive oil) inside your shoes to make room for other items. Be ruthless; imagine yourself in your outfits, doing what you'll be doing when you arrive. If it doesn't fit that image, don't pack it!

Finding a Clean Hotel Room
Before booking, read the reviews. In fact, scour the reviews anywhere and everywhere the hotel name is mentioned. This is one area where people are more than willing to put their fingers to keys when something isn't quite right. Don't rely on chain hotels and resorts to be the most clean, they may be big but that doesn't mean they have good housekeeping policies. As yet there is no international commission setting cleanliness standards for accommodation providers, so client reviews are the next best thing.
Wash your hands. Everyone should be washing for 30 seconds with soap and water after using the washroom anyway, but while traveling it is important to increase the frequency. No one knows the level of cleanliness the past occupants of the room kept, and you certainly will not know if they were ill. Make sure everyone in your party washes before and after eating or drinking, when arriving back at the room after being out and of course when using the washroom.
Get rid of the bedspread. Hotels do not wash the bedspreads every day or in fact every time there is a change in guests. So it would be in your best interest to remove and set it aside. Requesting additional blankets is fine, or even ask for the bedspread to be newly laundered when you check-in.
Check for bedbugs. It's yucky, yes, but checking for bed bugs will help prevent a potentially disastrous situation. Simply lift up the mattresses and if everything is nice and white, then go ahead and take a nap. If there are brown or red splotches, run like the wind! Brown or red marks are the blood from dead insects the bed bugs had eaten. Do not set any luggage down and immediately notify the front desk. Seriously consider a different hotel.
Finally, don't use the glassware. Or at least sanitize it before using it. Most hotels and resorts don't go as far as using the industrial dishwasher down in the kitchen for the glassware provided in rooms, so no one can say if they are sanitized. If you are desperate for that first cup of coffee in the room, wash them in the bathroom using your hand soap.
