Factors To Consider Before Buying Used Cars

By Gary Stossel

For one reason or another, one may be interested in buying a used car rather than a new one. However, the seller of a car may know something about it that he or she may not want buyers to know. This article highlights some of the factors that should be considered when buying used cars.

The first thing one should consider is to avoid buying a car in the rain. This is because the rain water makes the car look shinier than it really is. This might convince one that the car has a perfect paint job when this is not the case. Buy a car either in a closed room or in the open during fair weather.

Do not look at a car from the sides only. Stand at the front and make a close observation at the sides. Then do the same while standing at the back. If the vehicle has incurred any damage on its body during its lifetime, the buyer will be able to make this observation this way.

A fridge magnet should also be carried when one is going to buy a used car. This is used in checking the body work for filler. If the magnet sticks to the body, then it is alright. However, if it meets the filler, then it will fall off immediately.

It is also important to check the interior of the vehicle. The buyer should check the interior conditions as well as the mileage. If the car looks like it has done 100000 miles and the clock says it has done only 25000, then one know the clock has been adjusted.

Some problems with the car cannot be seen with the naked eye. An example of this is problems with the engine. The only way that these problems can be established is by taking the used car for a test drive.
