Angling Carps As A Sport For Beginners

By Ronald Jassephilld

The popularity of carp as a game fish is increasing in Europe, particularly in the UK. Carp is the general term for a group of fish types in the minnow family that are native to bodies of freshwater in Europe and Asia They have been raised artificially by people for many reasons such as a source of food and as ornamental pets Some have even introduced them to bodies of water to control the abundance of aquatic plants.

Due to their popularity, they have been exported from the rivers of Europe and Asia to bodies of freshwater all over the world. And because of lack of proper knowledge of the carps' survival capabilities, and probably negligence of some, carps have been carelessly introduced to rivers and lakes where they had no natural predators. This led to the increase in number and size of the fish in these bodies of water. In these places, carp has been labeled as an invasive species because they are depleting the supply of aquatic plants in riverbeds. The overpopulation of carps may result to murky river water.

In some places, carps develop to become very large fishes because they don't have a natural predator. This and their ability to put up a fight with anglers are the reasons why they are sought after by many sport fishing enthusiasts. They are best sought after in sport fishing UK, where carp fishing is the fastest growing market for anglers They have even developed a special type of carp bait that will last longer in the water than regular bait such as bread and other food items. These are called boilies.

Though there are many species of carps, the common carp is the most popular for anglers. This is because many other varieties such as the silver and bighead carps are filter feeders which are harder to hook. A special method of fishing called the suspension method is used to catch these filter feeders.

A smaller variety of the carp is the crucian carp. Even though they are not as big as the common carp, they are still a popular game fish. They have been known to produce hybrids with their relative the common goldfish. These hybrids grow larger than the pure crucian carps because they have been thought of having better survival skills than their parents.
