If you are looking to buy one of the many fishing rods, that are out there on the market for that person in your life. It is important that you are aware of the type of fishing that is going to be done with the rod.

With all the various types of fishing rods, each with their own categories of styles and lengths, it would be wise to find out the type of fishing and what type of fish they will be trying to catch with the rod.

If you are looking for a good all around type of spinning rod that will do well in both fresh and salt water, you should remember that this type of rod should be about five and a half to six and a half feet long. It also should be able to cast out one quarter ounce, three eighths ounce, or half ounce bait and/or lures.

If you know that the angler in your life would prefer a rod that is made of graphite, you will need to know that it should be a high modulus type. This will ensure that the rod is stiffer per ounce of the rod which will be a much stronger rod in the end.

As for the handle of fishing rods, a lot of experts say that the best type of handle would be the cork handle. Cork handles are far more sensitive at detecting when your bait is being targeted by nibbling or soft biting fish. Cork handles do have a tendency to wear out and chip away so if you are concerned with that you might want to look into getting one that has a foam handle.

Make sure that the blanks of fishing rods go all the way through to the handle. This is important because this will make the handle even more sensitive. To ensure the highest sensitivity, it is always a good idea to get a rod with a split grip that exposes some of the blank.

Guides on fishing rods are another important feature you should be aware of. If you have cheap guides and not ones that are strong and made of good quality stainless steel, you will run into the problem of rust and breakage. This will lead to damaging the line and a poor cast off.

Although the multi-section fishing rods are great for the traveler because they save on space, for the avid fisherman, this just may not be something that would interest them. A multi-section fishing rod loses some of its sensitivity as compared to a single section fishing rod.

The handle is made of a top grade cork adding more sensitivity to the rod. People are often surprised that such a light rod has so much power when reeling in their fish.
