A tarp is a large sheet of strong, flexible, water resistant or waterproof material. Most of the time, cloths like canvas are coated with plastic or latex to make tarps. Reinforced grommets at the sides or at the corners form attachment points for the ropes, so you can tie or suspend the tarp. Woven polyethylene can now be used to make tarps. These are called Polytarps. Tarps have been used for a long time to protect boats from the weather and to cover them.

Boat tarp kinds.

Tarps are classified based on the material they are made of. The common types of tarps include:

Poly tarps. These are the most commonly used tarps, and provide excellent cover from rain. It's made of high-density resin with heavy-duty grommets. They are quite versatile, being mildew-proof, tear-resistant, acid-resistant, and still usable in sub-arctic temperatures.

Canvas tarps. This type of tarp is hemmed and stitched all around and reinforced. Usually, the reinforcement is made of eyelets, which is made from material that does not easily rust. They are better used for outdoor storage etc.

The Mesh Tarps. They are also known as Shade Screens. They are not very good for use as boat tarps, and can be used in light breezes only.

Boat tarps are usually sold without any fittings, so they come in pre-standardized shapes that will fit most boats. If you have a wooden boat, better buy a mildew-proof tarp. Traditional boat covers are out of fashion, but tarps are in. Tarp repair kits are easily available, and if you are sailing they are a good idea, as they can tear.

There are so many new designs for tarps because of its growing popularity. You can even have a customized boat tarp. The tarp is also useful in protecting the boat from parasites. That's why the boat tarp is the first thing to buy for your boat.

Putting the rope attached to the tarp through the D hole will keep your tarp tight and without gaps. The proper customized boat tarps may be expensive, but they serve a good purpose of protecting your boat. Boat tarps are an excellent way to protect boats against every kind of weather.
