More of the Best Shopping in Orlando

By Robert Nickel

In part one; we examined The Florida Mall and the Mall in Millenia, both in the category of large Orlando shopping malls. Now we will delve into one of the oldest shopping malls in Orlando, the Orlando Fashion Square. Built in 1973, the Orlando Fashion Square has undergone several major renovations and expansions. The latest addition to the space was a movie theatre in 2005.

Perhaps one of the reasons the Orlando Fashion Square has enjoyed such a long history of success is its location and adaptability. Since it is located right in downtown Orlando, it draws tourists and local residents alike. The continual influx of revenue has made it possible for mall management to keep on evolving with shopping trends and fashion fads.

There are just 4 anchor stores and 98 individual stores at the Fashion Square, but with 1.08 million square feet of retail space on two floors, there is sure to be a boutique for every want. Shoppers can find everything from bridal wear to skate and surf clothing. There are numerous health and beauty salons, electronics shops, jewellery stores and ten eating establishments. Orlando Fashion Square is definitely one of the best places to shop in Orlando.

Last, but not least, is Festival Bay Mall. Located on International Drive, the Festival Bay Mall is the smallest of our line up. In fact it is more of an entertainment-shopping venue than simply a shopping mall. In the 865,000 square feet of Festival Bay Mall there are just 35 stores, six restaurants, a movie theatre, an arcade, an indoor children's playground, skatepark and glow-in-the-dark mini-golf. While the kids and young adults are having a blast in all the activities venues, adults can have their fun at stores such as Sheplers Western Wear, Ron Jon Surf Shop, Burlington Coat Factory, BCBG and the Universal Orlando store.

The four shopping malls we have examined in this two part series are certainly not the only ones in Orlando. However they are some of the largest and most popular, with the possible exception of the three large outlet malls. Whichever building you choose to shop at while in Orlando, be sure to take some time for the other attractions in the city. Take in the beautiful colonial architecture around some of the older neighbourhoods. Or if something modern is of more interest, check out the long list of skyscrapers in downtown Orlando. Shopping is fun, but so is getting out in the sun and seeing what else Orlando has to offer!
