Can vitamin D pills compensate for lack of sun?

Most people like spending time in the sun to get that lovely tan to their skin. Then there are others who are aware that the sun is the best possible source of vitamin D and can help with stress, especially in conjunction with supplements. You could have your own reasons for sunbathing, however, the truth is that the sun's rays could be more damaging to your skin than beneficial, and it is well known that they cause aging for which you might then want to take antioxidant capsules such as CoQ10.
The sun's rays contain two types of ultraviolet radiation. These are UVA and UVB. While UVA radiation makes you tan, UVB can actually burn the upper layers of the skin, causing sunburns.
Vitamin D is an essential anti-aging nutrient and the sun is its best source. So, if you completely avoid the sun, you may miss out on your daily dose of Vit D. However, make sure to get enough protection from the sun so that the UV rays cannot cause much damage to your skin.
The best protection is, of course, sunscreens. They should be of at least 15 SPF and you should wear it even on cloudy days or even when you are planning to stay indoors. A moisturizer containing sunscreen is also an option you should think about.
A higher SPF means that the sunscreen offers more defenses against the harmful UV rays. So, if you are planning on spending the day out in direct sunlight, make sure to use a sunscreen with an SPF as high as 30-50, and bear in mind that this may still not fully protect you. Don't forget to apply the sunscreen frequently. Also, apply every two hours of being under direct sunlight; even more so if you think it has been rubbed off or you have been in the water.
If you want to get a tan, try out one of the many products that are available in the market these days. Sun lamps or tanning beds help you get a tan safely without any exposure to the sun.
There are tans in bottles also that are available in the form of sprays and lotions. They give that radiant glow to your skin making you look good without exposing yourself to sunlight. Keep in mind that you still need protection from the sun so don't forget to apply sunscreen.
If lack of exposure to the sun is leading to a lack of the essential anti-aging nutrient, you can buy vitamin D supplements. Containing vitamin D3 or cholecalciferol, these are perfect for those who are not exposed to the sun too much.

It is true that sunlight is the best source of vitamin D. However, considering the harmful effects that the sun's rays can have on your skin, you may as well buy vitamin D supplements, plus eat a more nutritious diet.
