Key West tarpon fishing is an activity that has benefited many fish eaters and the fishers. This brownish or silver fish has large body that is covered with huge scales. Its lungs help in inhaling oxygen found on water surfaces. It has a large heavy bone that points upward and the mouth is large. Key West, located south of an Island in Florida has been a place many go for trips to look at fish.
The fish feed on shrimps, crabs and smaller bait fish. Their migration takes place in months of June and May and this is when big numbers of large tarpons travel down the Oceanside flats of Florida Keys Island chain. Fly anglers around the world go to Florida Keys at this time to fish this mighty silver fish. Some of the methods they use to fish are the light tackle where they use shrimps and other foods to attract and harvest them.
Night fishing is the other method done in the evening, almost sunset. Here, one uses spin casting attires at dusk and rolls a plug near deep channel. This method is good when all conditions are accurate. Additionally, one can get more of them using this method since it is done at night. This is when they are active due to low light intensity as they are nocturnal.
Fish hooks should be fixed well because the fish is strong. It has a mouth with the same texture and consistency with cinder block. Fly rod is the other important method. It is done in the morning hours when light intensity is low. This is an easy method as anglers only aims to feed fish with the fly rod. They are of different colors and designs. Best color should lead to successful results.
During the morning hours, fish moves in deep waters; therefore difficult to hook them using the fly. They hardly go far to feed and the only way to trap them is to use a fly with a color that can attract the fish. Fly rod method is popular among anglers also most preferred. The fishes have no exact time to harvest them since are presence through the year unless when they have migrated.
However, the best time during the day is early morning and afternoon hours. These are the times when tides fluctuate because of the moon phases. These fishes are tidal feeders, therefore when sun rises during the early morning hours and sets during the evening; water is usually in motion making this fish act abruptly and rapid and this when one can get them easily.
The best fishing months throughout the year depends on the fish migration patterns. They migrates annually during specific months, March and July. June, April and May remains to be best for most fishers. Since many fishers are active during these months, one can also get little numbers of fish even when it is not migration period.
To sum up, Key West tarpon fishing has helped many anglers. It offers the best harbor for anglers and the best fish when it comes to angling activity. This amazing fish is source food for many families that fish or buy them from fishers. Those that have been licensed to fish the whole day can harvest enough for food and sale.
