The thrills of bass fishing are hard to describe, and you'll hear different reasons from each person you ask. Not many things are so much fun as you're getting your education in how to be a better fisherman.
There's something about bass fishing that's just different from all the other kinds out there. You don't have to find out a thing about bass and just go for it, and that can make things interesting. How you prefer to gain knowledge is up to you, but it's just nicer to know how to do something like catch fish. All fisherman would rather go home with a string of fish, and you can do that with bass if you really want to.
The young bass are born during the spring, and this is the yearly ritual you will observe when you're fishing at that time. It's quite common to see a mother bass hovering over her nest which is typically situated closer to the grounds, or the side of the water. Even though this happens each year, most bass fisherman understand that it's hard to catch the females, and if you do you should return her to the nest. You can fish for them obviously but hopefully you are responsible and never keep the catch.
If you are new to bass fishing, then you really need to pay attention when shopping for equipment. You wouldn't think that's the case but it's true, and you don't want to be handicapped because you're incorrectly using your gear. If you're not conditioned to fish all day, you will get very tired with casting for hours on end. And the rod and reel weight will definitely make a difference, so pay attention to the weight of what you're buying, and it's fine to go with a lighter rod and reel combination. There are many types of bait you can use for bass fishing, and for example shad is one of them - but you have to know the strategy that's best for it. As with many other types of bait, it's what you do with it when it's on the end of your line that makes all the difference in the world. What this boils down to is that you'll need to know how to cast and then work the bait when it's in the water. Those bass who you have approached properly will go for the bait or maybe not if it's wrong.
Another point about bass is they can watch you on the side of the water if it's clear enough. When the water is not so clear, then at least that will be one thing that will be on your side. When the water is colder, bass are presumed to have increased visual acuity, and another amazing fact about bass is they can see colors, and how that was determined is beyond me. If you want to stack as many odds on your side as possible, then continue learning all these little tricks.
You'll need to match the tackle you are using with the species of bass you are fishing for, and this is where you need to learn about it. There are so many products on the market you can spend huge amounts of time, and just work with what you have in terms of cash. One thing you will see is that there is premium equipment that is very pricey and you don't really need it usually. What you just don't want to end up with is something really cheap that will not last long because obviously you'll be spending more to replace it.
Hopefully it's obvious that it's important to match the bait and tackle to the specific bass fish you're hunting. So the bait issue really should not be there since they are known to go for most types of baits. And don't forget what you may be able to learn from the people you know such as relatives and friends. No matter what you buy, take care that you don't ignore it because that's actually pretty common with consumers. Fishermen are legendary for loving to tell stories about the monster that got away, plus you can learn a few excellent tips to boot.
