Traveling Around the Gold Coast of Australia

By Cordelia Kennedy

Anytime you are traveling to a destination it is a good idea to get a feel for the public transportation system, before you go. This will help you determine what your transportation needs will be prior to arriving and will better enable you to make decisions on where you will be staying and what sites you plan on visiting.

When visiting the Gold Cost, public buses are the dominant form of public transportation. It is possible to arrange rail transportation between the Gold Coast and Brisbane, but there is no railway once you reach the Gold Coast. For information on the public bus system, you should obtain a copy of the Gold Coast transport planner. The planner will provide all needed information on bus times, routes and stops, which will assist you in planning your trip.

There are also many bike paths around Gold Coast and bikes can be hired from many local shops around the area, many will even deliver your bicycle right to where you are staying. If biking around is your thing then you will truly enjoy this option with over 600 km of bike paths in the Gold Coast region alone.

The Gold Coast region also has taxi service, although this is not the ideal way to travel. Even though the taxi rated are fairly reasonable, the constant use of taxis as your primary means of transportation can be come overwhelming and expensive.

The most popular transportation method, in the Gold Coast area, is renting a car. Car rentals allow you the freedom to plan your vacation without any travel restrictions, and renting a car also helps to reduce the pressure when you are on vacation, since you dont have to worry about catching a bus or a taxi. Of course renting a car does not mean that you cannot experience some or all of the Gold Coast areas other popular transportation methods, but it does mean that you are not reliant upon them during your trip.
