Yorkshire Dales offers countless opportunities for enjoyment on holiday, but its castles are by far some of the most interesting and accessible of the lot. Your Yorkshire hotel is certain to be within range of many of the interesting castles throughout the region, castles that many believe to be the most splendid of all the United Kingdom. Any one of them will add depth and character to your visit to the Yorkshire Dales, so don't neglect these destinations or you will certainly regret it. Skipton is a great place to start, although there are castles near almost every Yorkshire Hotel. In Skipton, though, you can choose a fabulous hotel to plan your trips. The lovely Rendesvouz Hotel is beautiful and has a family-friendly atmosphere and an excellent staff. It also boasts a wellness center, a fine restaurant, wonderful rooms, and a long list of amenities.
Skipton Castle is only a short drive away for a visit. For more than nine hundred years, this "great guardian to the Dales" has stood watch over the region. It has dungeons to explore and the great watchtower, so if your family wants to imagine prisoners or soldiers, the castle can accommodate. If you get peckish while you're exploring the historically significant castle, you can stop at the Clifford Tea Rooms. It will keep you well fed with a very large selection of local produce and wonderful foods from the region, so be sure to drop in.
Another fabulous choice during you holiday in the Dales is Bolton Castle. This historically significant location once imprisoned Mary, Queen of Scots, and the castles is filled with the atmosphere of intrigue, romance, and history. You might also choose to leave your Yorkshire Hotel to visit Barden Tower. The property was repaired and renovated in 1658 by Lady Anne Clifford, and the beautiful and tranquil environment makes it a favorite for day trippers touring the area. Make sure you leave enough room in your schedule to spend some time walking the grounds and drinking in the atmosphere.
There are many other castles you'll also want to visit in the Dales. For example, you definitely don't want to miss Richmond Castle. On a high cliff, stands like a beacon over the River Swale. This particular castle is very interesting because it was never attacked. It never saw battle. Without battle, there was no need to maintain it or ever to renovate. That meant that by the 1700s, the castle was essentially in ruins. That alone serves as a reminder that castles weren't housing alone but armaments.
You'll definitely want to leave your Yorkshire hotel for a trip Richmond castle. There's also one more castle you should plan to include in your travels. Knaresbourough Castle, which is located quite close to Harrogate, has a great deal of history, and it's always enjoyable to visit locations where historical figures walked. King John used Knaresbourough Castle in the thirteenth century. He didn't use it as a battlement, though. He used it as a lodge for hunting! Mentions of this castle go back as early as the beginning 1100s.
As you plan your trip to this remarkable region, don't neglect the important historical sights. You'll need to find a Yorkshire hotel, and you want to make it comfortable, of course. You'll also want to take some time to see the lovely wildlife and beautiful landscape. No matter what you plan, though, for goodness sake, don't skip the castles!
