5 Family Attractions In York For The Whole Family To Enjoy

York City is a truly amazing place and there are plenty of things to do and see that both young and old alike can enjoy. However in this article we are going to be looking briefly at 5 family attractions in York that we feel you and your family will enjoy when you decide in the future to visit this city.

Attraction 1 - Water World

This is proving to be one of the most popular attractions that York City has to offer and is situated in the area of the city known as Monk's Cross which is located on the outskirts of the city centre. As well as two swimming pools there is a wave machine and water slides for you and your family to enjoy. Also should you have very small or young children travelling with there is a special area in which they can play. This is a great place to visit when the weather isn't that great.

Attraction 2 - York Model Railway

This attraction is next to the train station in the city centre and is a wonderful place for the whole family to visit. You will certainly be impressed at the work that has gone into the construction of these landscaped miniature railways with features such as stations, carriages, tunnels and bridges. Plus for the smaller children they will find that the Thomas the Tank Engine train is wonderful as it allows them to the opportunity to control it alone.

Attraction 3 - Homestead Park

If you will be visiting York when the weather is wonderful and you are wanting to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city then head over to this park for a while. It is popular with not only visitors but those who live in the city and has large areas of grass where games can be played or you can just sit and enjoy the sunshine. If the kids are looking a little restless then head over to the parks playground where there are plenty of things for them to enjoy including large slides, climbing frames and swings. However we do feel that this one of our 5 family attractions in York, will not only be enjoyed by the kids but also by the adults as there are plenty of spots where they can just sit and relax.

Attraction 4 - York Viking Walk

Going on this tour allows you the opportunity to travel back in time to the 9th Century and learn more about the battles fought between the locals and the Vikings who then gained control of the city in 867AD. As well as learning about how the Vikings overcame the resistance of the local people you will learn more about where they worked and lived in York. But this walk isn't for the fainthearted as it provides you with the chance to discover more about how ruthless and cruel the Vikings could be.

Attraction 5 - York Dungeon

If you are visiting York and you have teenagers travelling with you then they may find this one of our 5 family attractions in York particular interesting. It not only teaches you more about the history of the city during the last 2,000 years but it brings history to life. This attraction is proving very popular indeed because of the special effects and live shows that take place each day.
