Dublin is believed to be the heart and soul of Ireland by many and is certainly a place worth visiting if you have the time. As you will soon discover when you do visit this city is very vibrant and there are numerous wonderful things for you to do and see. However below we take a look at 5 things you must see in Dublin when you take a trip to it.

1. Guinness Storehouse

Of all the things to do and see in Dublin this attraction is of course proving the most popular with visitors to it. If you spend time here you get to learn everything about this beer which is world famous and has been produced for 250 years. Following your tour around the storehouse you then head to The Gravity Bar where you have the opportunity to sample a pint of this for free.

2. Kilmainham Gaol

Built in 1792 this prison has been homed to some very illustrious prisoners before it was eventually closed in 1924. This is in fact considered to be the most famous of all disused prisons to be found in Ireland today. The first prisoners to be housed here were members of the Society of United Irishmen in 1798 then in the 1840's it was the home of Fenians and Land agitators such as Davitt and Parnell. But not only was it home to prisoners it is known for being the place where members of the 1916 Easter Rising were executed. For those who would like to know more about Irish Republicanism then a visit to this attraction should be considered.

3. Dublin Castle

This building is home to some of the city's oldest surviving architecture and was constructed between 1208 and 1220. For most of its life (7 centuries) this building was used as the centre of power by then English. But then in 1922 it was taken over by the Irish Free State. You can spend time viewing the remains of a Viking fortress as well as what is now believed to be Ireland's oldest purpose built office.

But it is also known for being the city's "officially designated arts zone" and numerous galleries and centres have opened up here now.

5. Dublinia

This one of the 5 things you must see in Dublin is to be found on St Michael's Hill and allows you to really learn more about the history of this wonderful city. The exhibits allow you to learn more about the time in the 12th Century when Anglo Normans were living here as well as more about why the monasteries in Ireland were forced to close in the 1540's. All exhibits have various models and reconstructions for you to enjoy plus there are numerous videos you can watch. However the one exhibit which seems particularly popular with visitors to this particular attraction is the scale model of the city showing you what it was like during the 1500's.
